Hi all. I'm Jay and have owned my 2005 Evo VIII for a few weeks now and have made a start on the project so decided to record this build in my own project thread!
I bought the car from Alex after months of searching for my dream 340. She is build number 272. Here's the first pics:
As it stood when I bought it, the car has:
- Magnex 3" turbo back straight through system
- HKS mushroom filter
- Walbro 255
- XP8 discs and pads all round
- Eibach springs
- Remap with pops and bangs
- Evo 9 rear bumper
First mod, carbon VG
This will be a project to enjoy and keep super clean and tidy. My plans are:
- Front bumper respray inc. mesh
- Private plate to be put on
- Lots and lots of carbon (front splitter, sides, rear extension, mirrors)
- Coilovers (decent brand recomendations please)
- Light window tint
- Defi gauges
- Rota Grid Drifts
- Much more...
This is all in good time as I plan to keep her as long as poss.
Thanks for looking!
Jay

Update:
As I have a free week, I decided to make this my official 'Work on Evo' week. Lots of bits to do so I cracked on:
Day 1
The car is perfect, apart from one major let down, the state of the front bumper:
The bonnet grill also has its fair share of stone chips:
I removed both of them and dropped them off to my mate to be sprayed
Once the V5 comes through, I intend to put my private plate on (hence my name!) but didn't like the vinyl plate. I got a JDM mount from Dave @ Ears (cheers):
and got my plates made up with a 330mm x 85mm front plate to fit the mount perfect once I have trimmed it down
Carbon wrapped the front badge:
The intercooler looks tatty and ****e so I intend to give it a fresh lick of paint this week too:
Day 2
The car is fitted with XP8's which are bloody squeeky as hell! I didnt like it so after looking up some threads, got myself some of this:
Once I removed the pads, I found they had some severe pitting. Never seen this before but can someone shed some light of the cause? Is it bad?
Thats it for today...cheers for reading!

Day 3
The intercooler was in a sorry state generally so I took it off, flatted it back and gave it a fresh lick of paint:
Day 4
Fitting single din stereos in these cars seem to be a right ball ache! I managed to get some stereo mounting brackets from Mitsubishi and a universal pocket from Halfrauds. With some slight bodging, it was all together so now I have music!!
Day 5
So I got the bumper back today and what a transformation! Had the grills and bonnet vent sprayed too so they're nice a neat now too. With the carbon badge I wrapped and the cleaned up cooler, the whole front end looks 100x better and closer to my standards now!

Update:
Done a few things recently. I managed to get my private plate all tranferred over but decided to change the way the front looked. I went for the JDM mount from Dave@Ears but had an idea to cut down the mount. I cut it to 330mm x 85mm and had the plate made to size. When I come to fit it, it looks as if I cut it a little too shallow and the bottom wasn't supported and looked far too flimsy
With a long time spent looking and thinking, I managed to 'bodge' it together with some added support. Doesnt look too bad really....
Such a shame and not ideal but thats that I suppose.
I also got myself some carbon side sills and Do Luck front carbon splitter
Will be fitting these this weekend

Love it. Your mate did a good job on that front bumper. I am steering clear of respraying now unless absolutely necessary cause it never looks right but yours looks really good. I want a grey car again!

agree the right place will get it right, cant agree that taking them off and sending them seperate to the car is a good idea, it cant be matched and blended, can see the match being off tbh

The car went to the body shop where my mate matched the paint up with the charts. Considering its been dry stored throughout its life, done 38k and only 6 years old, I was confident it'd match fine. The match is 100% perfect.

WTF. Where do people like you come from? The pictures of the bumper are there and the match is spot on. What is it with this site and picking fault with everything!
BTW Jay there's a pebble lodged in your front passenger side tyre.

Superb mate. Brilliant car. I'll put a project thread up soon although I won't be doing much to it as its perfect

True. My 2 bits of paintwork have both been done by guys working out of barns without a proper oven. Still makes me worried as its always noticeable, maybe it's just red that's easy to spot? If it came out bad I'd just wish I'd left it as it was and I wouldn't be happy with the car - like my Mazda

i'm guessing he means it in a general way. someone who takes the bumper off their flame pink corsa to get it painted without the car will no doubt be disappointed when it doesn't match the rest of the car.
