We are looking to buy a sofa in the coming weeks. We have found the one we would like in SCS.

They are selling it for £1599 at the moment (has been £1299 in sales)

For some reason, i decided to ebay search and came accross the exact sofa in this listing...

Ebay Listing

We just called them and they say they can do the same sofa for £925 (thats a 2 corner 2) so a saving of around £500.

They gave us their web address 123Sofa.co.uk

It all looks too good to be true. dfs sofas over 1500 cheaper etc. They have good feedback on ebay however.

After reading "about us", it says they manufacture sofas and sell direct. So am i right in thinking they make them to copy the big name shops sofas? check who.is and it comes back as a street address which is a housing only road.

Opinions?

house day tbh

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

Hmm, the post code I found seems to be in a shopping centre in Leeds.

The domain is registered to Batley (Wakefield way)

None of the big sofa companies make their own but it seems pretty unlikely the manufacturer would be selling the same sofa they make for DFS/SCS on the side, I don't think they'd keep their contract for long if they did.

There are two main companies round here who make sofas for the big retailers but you can't buy direct from them unless you are an employee or sometimes when they have a clearance sale.

Could be a replica or actually the same as you would have got from a big name, you wouldn't know unless you got the two next to each other.

As far as I could tell when I was looking at sofas all the major high street ones must have been made in exactly the same factory, they were all very very similar.

Which would suggest that it's not that surprising they'd have exactly the same thing.

I'd personally be worried about the quality. If (like me) you spend a lot of time on it, you've got a littleun and stuff then I'd be wanting the dollar one.

I spent more on a 11" laptop to put it into perspective. But less on a Mazda MX5

Just had an email back. They can build it in any colour. So obviously they are making it themselves.

Think I might steer clear

They won't be making it themselves. They will be an agent/distributor for the company. They will probably order the sofa from the factory and just deliver it straight to you. Worth doing instead of paying well over the odds. I ordered 2 x 2 seat maxi's in blue leather, with beech trim for £720 delivered from italy from an agent. Saw the same sofa's in DFS for over a grand each!!!

My girlfriends parents once got a sofa from SCS (or another big sofa retailer) and it was shit. No end of problems with it.

Luck of the draw. Most probably made in the same factories anyway. There aren't that many sofa manufacturers about tbh.

Sainsburys, Tescos and the like don't actually have their own factories making own brand food.

Probably a similar principle.

ive bought suites, leather beds, glass dinning tables, office chairs, bathrooms etc from ebay companies, i really dont see what the problem is

they have 0 overheads unlike dfs with their huge showrooms, they dont mess about with credit and advertising, and sell cheap. Will be the exact same one from the exact same factory
