I don't think my 2nd driver wants to go racing again next year, as he can't afford it.

This leaves me with 3 choices:

1. Sell the car and split the money between us.

2. Get another driver to buy him out and go racing with a new 2nd driver.

3. Buy him out myself and go racing on my own.


Problem is, I need a 2nd driver who is quick enough (ideally as fast as me (within a second) or quicker), I trust and can afford to partake in the 'experience'.
I also don't know what price the car is worth, in regards to selling it / buying out half.

My dad's telling me to sell the car, give him the money, then buy another car to race on my own - but that = £££.

I'd expect the buy out of the half to cost around £2500 and any other driver is going to need ards / race wear / etc.

Sell up, pay him back, do it on your own when you can afford it. Atleast you wont have to rely on anyone else then.

Crash the car, it wont be worth as much, then buy him out, then fix and race.

Option 2.

Option 1 will end the dream. Option 3 won't be as fun on your own.

I'd love to do something like that, I'd be terrible at it though

I would try option 2. I imagine Option 3 will be alot more of a financial burden and you may lose the enjoyment because of that. What are the costs involved for crashing? Is it just fix your own car or is it like insurance where you have to deem fault and the other pays for repairs etc? I presume not but I don't know

Crashing you just fix your own car. Racing incidents.
If I crashed badly I'd probably just split the parts on the car

I'm half tempted to sell the s2000, buy a cheap Tdi and buy my 2nd driver out.

i will be racing a couple of rounds next year on my own, possilbly the whole season if i can afford it or get a little bit of sponcership. Go for option 3

option 1, less hassle unless you can replace the old dude with someone like for like, if you half is worth £2500 could get a decent 172 for that to track which would leave option 3 open

yeah but getting a 172 race ready would cost $$

If i sold the integra and went racing on my own I'd buy something like this:

and race in nippon challenge / vtec challenge maybe.

If I bought my friend out and went racing in my own integra, I'd be buying a shorter ratio final drive, maybe a better LSD, and perspex windows I think. Maybe a refresh on engine. Maybe wider wheels / tyres. It would be pretty fucking amazing then.

My car in it's current spec would slot in there nicely - although 960kg is a bit light... not sure i could get the car that light and 250 bhp is a bit high for the 250gt class above.

2.5k then what per race though?

And general fixing - tyres, oil, brakes etc

I'd assume it'll be 2.5k ish for half the car - but not really sure yet.

Then each race is £180-£355 depending on the series. If a two driver series obv gets split between two drivers.

Each race is often £96 trailer hire (for weekend) and ~ £65 fuel in the race car. (I don't include fuel in the getting there / back)

Oil ~ £50 every 2 races.
Tyres ~ £650 every 4 races at a guess.
Brakes ~ £150-£200 every 4 races at a guess.

So for 4 races as an example:

£355+£96+£65 x4 = £2064
£100 oil
£650 tyres
£200 brakes

£3014 - assuming nothing breaks / needs upgrading (which obv with 2 drivers gets split)

So roughly £1507 per driver per 4 races
or £376.5 per driver per race.

Bound to be a couple of extra costs though / maybe test days if the driver is new.

Biggest cost of going racing is upfront
e.g.
A ) getting a car that is competitive / meets the regs and
B ) getting race license / race gear (helmet / race suit etc)

If you could ask yourself the same question about two years ago, you would say sell the S2000 and buy his half out. Don't give up too easy.
