i usually arrive at work with 10 minutes to spare, but i know a guy who works on the next shift who comes in at 8:00pm on night shift (they don't start until 10:30pm).
he says it's because if he stayed at home he would have a few beers (45, single, lives with his mum and dog).
theres another guy (about 50, has a massive mole on his nose) who always comes in at 12:15pm when he's on lates (starts at 2:30pm). he always sits down in the rest area, reads the newspaper and warms up his food he has brought in from home.
i find this very strange behaviour. why would you not just eat at home and come in on time like everyone else?
anyone else know these kinds of people?

I arrive with as little time to spare as possible. Rather not be there longer than I have too. We just sit around for an hour or so anyway so I don't really find it important to be on time
And yeah we have people that arrive half hour early etc, I find it really strange

If I have to be in at 0830 as I normally do, I'll be here between 15 and 30minutes late
If there's a meeting or a special occasion, I'll be walking through the door at 0830 on the nose. I just stay late all the time and more than make up for it

sounds like me - that said, I only act like a martyr when I'm taking shit for being late. As said above, get more done out of normal office hours as the phone isn't ringing and the guys off the shop floor aren't asking ridiculous questions

Depends really, usually about 20-30 mins but if I know it's a busy day or I want to ride first I'll be in at least an hour early. I also work at least 2-3 hours late every day though

Northern, James.
My old office had a woman turn up at like 7.30am when she didn't start until 8.30 and like Laney says it was like she was being the hero.
Has a husband and kid as well so why would you sit at your desk when you could still be at home.
So glad I don't have to put up with that bollocks anymore

9 start, normally get in around 8:30 enough time to filter through the emails, say hello on morning thread, check up on internets and if I'm hungry get some food.
Also just being off the motorway if I leave like 10 minutes later, I usually arrive at 9 or just before. Fecking traffic

I don't mind working late, if the workload requires it. In fact I often do it. But I don't get the point in getting in early?
Maybe it's just me.

I don't really get it? Do people clock watch that much that they need a hooter to let them know they can go home? What is wrong with having a few clocks dotted around?
Don't people work different hours? Or does everyone do the same hours?
Just seems a really old fashioned thing to do

What was even more ridiculous in our place was the phone lines didn't open until 8.30 so what she was doing for that time god knows
