Reason I ask is, I got the gf jean paul gaultier perfume from amazon and the stand inside the tin is broken, it was out of stock so they couldnt send me a new one, then emailed me to say they cant send just the stand but the perfume is back in...... but are giving me a 15% refund to go buy a stand
Do retailers like boots etc sell just the tin?
What should I tell amazon?

Ok so it's amazon but why are they doing you a discount to buy a stand? That makes no sense, surely they should just exchange it?

Im confused too, at first they just said sorry it was out of stock, then they emailed back saying they will give me a 15% discount to buy a stand but now that its back in they could send me a replacement

Here's the email im talking about
I'm very sorry to hear you received the "Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Femme Eau De Toilette Spray 100 ml" in that condition.
Please be advised that even though the item is back in stock, we’ll happily replace this item at no cost to you. I’m sorry but we are unable to send individual items from a set.
In this situation, since the "Jean Paul Gaultier Classique Femme Eau De Toilette Spray 100 ml" is still usable, I've requested a refund of 7.12 GBP to your payment card so that you can buy the stand from your nearest available store.
This refund equates to a 15% discount for your item. Refunds go through in 2 to 3 business days so you should see this credited to your account on your next statement. Please note, this does not include your bank's processing time. On the date the refund is completed, we'll send you an e-mail message confirming the date, amount and payment details.
If you have any further questions, please contact us by replying to this e-mail.
Once again, I apologise for any inconvenience caused in this regard.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and for shopping at Amazon.co.uk.

So basically they don't want you to return it for an exchange as they will be stuck with a knackered Item they can't do anything with. Therefore they are fobbing you off with a partial discount in the hope you will accept it. You have no chance of buying the stand from anywhere. It's totally upto you but since it's a gift I would demand an exchange.

Next question to them would be where the hell do I buy one.
I had a similar situation with Orange in which they credited my bill in lieu of partial exchange but chargers are easier to find.

I emailed them before I made this thread to ask if I would actually be able to buy a tin from a shop
Just waiting for a reply now, but ive emailed back to say I re-read the email and would rather the replacement
It does seem like they are trying their luck

IMO tell them where to go!!!
Sendthrm the used perfume and stand back in a used condition and demand a replacement.
Even if you found somewhere that would sell the stand I bet it would cost more than 7 odd quid.

Tbf if it wasn't a gift and was for you then you would probably accept the partial refund. You can't blame them for trying but they should have come out and offered that straight away, not try to tell you that you could buy a stand from elsewhere.

The gf keeps her last one on the stand with the top of the tin off so its likely to happen

Does the women's not stand up on its own without the stand like the men's one does? I've always junked the tin and base, I thought it was just packaging

I reckon you'll struggle to get the stand.
I remember when I was doing a perfume project at school. Walked round the whole of Milton Keynes shopping centre trying to get an empty sample bottle but nowhere could give me one.
