eg this
a solid rear beam like that isnt a torsion beam, it shouldnt twist if at all, so how does a arb make any difference whatsover, it would work if connected to the shocks via droplinks, but in my mind that will make no difference whatsoever
where am i going wrong with my thoughts as people have said it does make a large difference, im not getting it...

You're wrong Steve. That's all there is to it.

im happy to be wrong, but baffle me with physics as to why, in my simple mind it cannot make a difference or be it such a minor difference youd never know
at best all i can see is a slight structural rigidity gain
dare i say it, but placebo?

Genuine difference to the way the back end feels. I haven't got the time to explain it in terms you'd understand as I have no Lego.

It working was enough to satisfy my purchase of it. Best thing I noticed was the full weld in cage. Huge difference. But on my country test track roads the rarb was definitely a major improvement.

Yep.
pound for pound it was by far the best thing I done to my corsa to sort out the rear end.
No placebo effect here.
Thats going from doing about 10 track days with out then about 10 after before any other changes were made.
It basically changed the rear end from being dragged around the corner, to following the front.
Made the rear end feel less wobbly and felt more together and stiffened up.
Its quite hard to explain unless you actually experience it with and without, especially pushing the car to its limits on track. On the road it was hardly noticable.

ok so we have a few people saying it works

And with and without a cage there is a difference in a car between night and day.
A car will feel completley different, stiff, rigid, lack of body roll and chassis twist.
That was the best thing I ever done. It stiffened the whole car up that much that

On a Corsa they are not stiff.

Because the beam flexs, the arb just makes it stiffer.
Jack a Corsa up take the shocks and springs out, put one wheel back on so it touches the floor, stand on the other sides drum and watch how much it twists/flexs

A bit of flex is a good thing, maintain traction.

exactly as gazza says tbh.
They do have a lot of movement in it.

the standard beam flexes a fair bit. the anti roll bar helps add some rigidity to it. made a big difference inc more controllable oversteer

So in your first post you have acknowledged that the beam will twist. The shocks still attach to the beam. Only thing that will make a difference in terms of mounting is how far away from the transverse straight part you can mount it.

maybe part and parcel why they handle so well
