Where is cheap to get this from these days?

It's to be used by a small business.

I might recommend OpenOffice but I'm not sure if it will be sufficient.

google docs, if you cant do it on there then your company is big enough to pay full price for Office.

Actually I think OpenOffice will suffice.

Google docs looks like a good alternative but their internet connection is a bit ropey so I wouldn't fancy relying on a cloud based solution.

If they are a Student i.e school/college/uni then you can get it at a huge fraction of the original price think my girlfriend got it for £40 or something stupid like that.

Edit; It was MS Office 2010 aswell, so the latest edition.

Check if they need Outlook, so many people buy the cheap home and student one without checking.

Have you thought about signing up to Office365?

For about £5 a month per user you can have online versions of the office suite (browser based), hosted email and some other stuff.

For about £15 a month per user you get a license for local copies of office in addition to loads of other medium sized businessy things.

We've got on-premise Exchange for our ~1300 users but we've got Office365 subscriptions for our US based remote offices. So far, so good.

How many licenses are you after? Just asking as one of my clients just managed to grab a retail copy of the Business package that includes 3 licenses for £100, i believe it was B-stock but it all appears to be legit and works perfectly fine (ie: registers and updates), off the Pc-World website.

Although I would give LibreOffice a whirl though as it's pretty damn good, certainly a lot better than OpenOffice.

Depends on the business but apart from the hosted Exchange side of it which is pretty good (although i'd personally opt for another provider like Cobweb), i don't think Office 365 is a substitute for standalone Office packages with cost and features being the main issue.

You can get various cheap licences for everything without an ac.uk address, it's just as illegal as downloading it if you have to licence it properly though.
