No not the corsa..... thankfully!

So, you may know my second cars is a 2002 Renault Clio Dynamique DCi.. Some girl decides shes gonna skid into the back of me in traffic, pushing me into the car in front... She has admitted liability and the claim for her car, my car, and the car infront of me, is going through her insurance...

My question, if they insurance company write it off - do I buy back and fix, or buy something else....

IMO, the car has been spot on for the last 2 years, have fixed loads of niggly bits, handles well, great mpg and cheap tax. is however on 122k, but it hasnt missed a beat!

The damage:
Front bumper - looks fine, but crumples internally, can get away without replacing imo
Rear bumper - same as front, looks fine etc - just scratched
Front Crash Bar - pushed inwards - still 2 inches from rad, can be pulled out.
Bonnet - has a crease - gonna have to be replaced
Boot floor - this is the main problem, its got a crease in the wheel well, and it pushed in far enough that the boot doesnt close... - a friend reckons we can use a 'porta pack' (hydraulic ram) to push the crease out - if not panel may need to be replaced.
Front headlight, damaged bracket - still in one piece and light solid
Rear headlight - mild scuff - can be polished out.
Mechanically the car is fine - nothing wrong!

Car value £1200 - £1300

Pics:

excuse my rope holding the boot closed..

the crease!

the gap!

Opinions please!

Poor dCi

As the other driver is accepting responsibility you will get some money for it, I think it's worth about £2k+ - 2002 Clio 1.5 dCi go for £2k on the market.

Will be written off like said, even a little bump and insurance companies seem to say it's a write off.

If you get a decent price for it you could find another dCi easy enough !

Yes but if the cars written off, he will be paid, he can buy another dCi and still buy his old one back after that for a small cost, pointless to let it go to some fat pikey in a scrap yard when it's mechanically sound.

If they have the space and means of getting it back then why not buy it back, strip it and make some money from it.

So saying the best option.

Insurance pays out > Buy another dCi > Buy back original dCi off the insurance company > Strip and sell or use the original for parts - Dynamic rims for example.

Insurance company's are doing away with selling back cars and are going to auctions . A mate bumped his car and they wouldn't let him buy it back . They know they will get more at auction . Especially since Poland are buying everything at a price we can't compete at.

Get your money off insurance and buy another it's no big deal . You might get courtesy car in the gap until been paid out

Do you have to re-mot the car or anything like that? Or can you literally just drive it off again?

Only if it's Cat C. Cat D can just carry on using it, but I'm saying that will be a Cat C due to age/mileage etc
