i was under the impression it was around 250 quid. I've been getting a few quotes off people/companies round here for the 330d to have a re-map, tbh i fancy the extra mpg as well as more power. seems the prices I'm getting are roughly around 350. is this about the average? i understand the way its done and that they aren't actually mapping the vehicle in question, i just think thats a bit extreme for essentially little effort compared to a proper map on a programmable ecu which can take hours.
best price I've got is off a couple of mates for £320. thats fully guaranteed as they are dealers for some chip tuning type company.

Yes about right. Pretty easy money tbh if you already have the maps

thats a lower set of numbers than what I've been reading warren. seem to get from about 300lb/ft to nearly 380 which is a fair bit more than 80nm
275 id go for, but I'm not going to fuckin southern england pmsl

read a file from ecu, send that to some company, wait a bit, they send a file back, flash that on to the ecu, pay 300+ quid, customer drives away.

Wow seems very easy work i take it the actual file transfer bit is within minutes? The times taken to email the company and getting a response? Do they adjust the original file?

well people claim they do, and its individual, but it can't be as they don't adjust it on the car when say on rollers. they perhaps adjust the file that you send, but only to be like one they already have no doubt. the equipment by all accounts to buy isn't the cheapest, which is obviously where the prices come from to recover costs perhaps?

Take i this is only available on mappable ECU's? Has to be a generic profile they could adjust something in error and your car coudl run shit. I take it this is cheaper than a proper map?

most cars seem flash able with generic stuff these days. i could have a map made on my corsa from scratch for cheaper tbh, which would be made for the engine/car in question. don't get me wrong, i fully intend to have a remap on the bmw, just wondered why its so bloody expensive for essentially not a great deal of work involved?

They develop the map on a car on rollers somewhere then adjust your map with those changes.
Don't see the issue with a mass produced car when the engines will all be exactly the same.

You pay for the original work, not your one in particular.
Still a bit expensive though imo.

The ecu will compensate for the tiny differences.
BMW wouldn't be that good if the engines were different.

even so, for example a map for say mine from rs tuning, probably cost me 500 quid. thats for my car. therefore 300 ish for a re flash, well 2x would cover the original map and be in profit. this is the bit i don't understand.

every engine is different slightly. curves int he graphs are never the same at the same points etc.

There's more chance of the rollers introducing that imo.

resister mod? in a box?
Not sure, probably not.
Be the same as those DTUK boxes that are found on 95% of Vauxhall CDTi's. And they seem to work well.

true, seen them quite a few times on the rollers. do seem to actually work well on astras and vectors and do what they claim pretty much.

Can put more torque though it, you can pretty much say what you want...
Dont have to come to me, just your ECU....

oh, the only advantage i can see for this re-flash that a couple of mates can do, if i remove the egr set up, and change the down pipe they can adapt the ecu for it. well, the file will come back with egr settings removed etc etc.

I would get a map for the car on the rollers before and after than this 're-flash' you talk of. Its simply a generic map file for your car, copy and pasted on to your ECU
