Ok, feel like I want a new car but not feeling 100% like its the right idea so opinions please..

Current car..

02 S3, very rare colour, all options on it, love it but 147k so very very near worth nothing

Really fancy a 03/04 Z4, can be had for good money and very different to the S3..

Two options here..

Give myself 1.5 - 3k worth of debt and get a Z4 or keep the S3 and spend say £500 on new bushes, suspension, tracking etc..

Thoughts?

Wouldn't be me spending 500 odd quid on a car 147k personally , give yourself the bit of debt and pay it off as quick as you can , that's what I'd do.

Just to clarify, not like its a fucking rat or anything, very good car, simply high motorway miles!

You only live once.

If you feel like you dont need rear seats and can handle the driving position (perfect btw, just quite low) on long motorway journeys then go for it.

The boot is suprisingly spacious, it gets 35-40mpg at 55-65mph and its lovely to drive.

Run the S3 for another 12-18 months, it'll still be worth upwards of £2.5k, save up in the mean time and then get the Z4 when funds allow. Sometimes a case of better the devil you know imo

Didn't say it needed 500 quid spending on it. I get the impression that's to keep himself happy for a while.

People may fear finance in these times due to job security etc. A Few years ago things were different.

Getting a nice range of opinions here

The £500 would be spend on lowering it a bit, doesn't need it but I might be tempted to spend a bit of cash on it.

Going for a test drive in a Z4 today I think, should have an idea then if I really want one or not.

Go for the Z4, the way i always look at these things is that you never know whats round the corner and you might not have the debt any more, or if at worst case you can't afford it you can always sell it.

why not look at S2000's too, better that the Z4

Don't think I've ever seen your S3 around Ian, whereabouts on the Wirral are you?

I'd say it's time for a change even though the S3 has some
Legs in it yet. Is the Z from a garage near us?

I would keep the S3, spend the £500 on it and save up..

what's to say you get in debt for the BMW and something breaks ? Then you need to get in debt for your debt.

I would just wait until you have the funds to buy the car and maintain it.

I would say sell the S3 and get the Z4, or something else that might take your fancy.

I always say that if it crosses your mind to get something else, then its time to move on as it will always be at the back of your mind. Well, thats how i see it.

You could spend £500 on the S3, but garaunteed right after it, you will still be thinking about getting rid.

i actually agree with you for once seems quite sensible.

although the same could be said if the S3 engine let go and needed thousands spent on it.

p.s. Ian, that colour is stunning. what's it called?

S3 is a lovely example, I'd stick with it. Don't modify it, just do the jobs which need doing and then save up. If you;re posting on here, you're obviously worried about getting into debt so don't do it. Buy the Z4 or alternative when funds allow.
