Starting work for Eddie Stobart tomorrow as a transport clerk and its nights. I have never worked nights before so any advice from people that do would be great.
Sort of gonna try and stay up late tonight but apart from that don't really know what else.

I don't think you can do that much to help until your body falls into its natural new body clock

Always helps me to stay up late as possible then sleep late as possible before the first one. Some people try and hardcore it get up usual time so not to waste a day off then they are nodding off at work

i work nights but its in a casino , so there is often alot to do to stop you from becoming tired. on my days off i can easily go back into a normal sleeping pattern . it is worth getting an eye mask and ear plugs to help you sleep after though

In my job involves sitting in a boring warm room for hour long stints in silence, is a killer as you really can't nod off so you end up head bobbing

Thanks people, very helpful. We are going getting a blackout blind tomorrow but never thought of ear plugs to be honest as we live round the corner from a school.

Ill be doing 7 -7's I'm hoping i will be busy then it keeps my mind occupied

IMO I'd say the best advice is to take them seriously.
People always say they can stay up all night but when i was in a job where i would be working nights I always told myself to understand that sleep is still needed in the same proportions as if I were working normal days.

getting up for nights is nowhere near as bad as waking up in a morning to go to work.

I have basically shifted my sleeping pattern around. So instead of normal people sleeping from 11 - 6am. I sleep from 6am to 1pm. Also means I can stay in bed I rarely get out of bed straight away, I feel so much better for it than struggling out of bed everyday. And I still get the same amount of sleep if not more somedays if I get into bed earlier or get up later.

Some people at work do split sleeps, sleep 4 hours when they get home then up at 9, see the day though have dinner then sleep 6:30 to 9:30, I couldn't do that

It's eating I struggle with. I've been doing permanent nights for 4 and a half years and I still can't get my eating pattern right

The first one is always the worst, then the recovery once you come off them, my mate used to come off his last night turn and not bother sleeping til that night to get back into the sleeping pattern, I could never do it.
