I've been offered a 2000 Audi S3 in black from a mate, the car is all original apart from new koni suspension(old stuff had snapped springs?). It has loads of history and has had a recent new turbo, clutch and belts etc...

The car has covered 139k..

What do I need to be looking for to ensure its not a nail? I've been offered it super cheap that's all

Check to see if both fan speeds are working. New fans cost £400.

Bring vagcom and check for error codes. Original sensors are prone to fail.

Ignition coils can be replaced under warranty.

Check for gear box whine.

Check glovebox for hairdryer, boot for general supplies (dye, scissors, etc) if all this is ok then simply take the money out of your man bag (careful not to snag the sleeve on the big gay buttons on your big gay coat) and drive away happy.

Found a guide online giving me things to look for, the car is all sweet. No rust on arches, doors or roof rails.

The cream leather could do with some treatment, I might even dye it black if possible. its not ripped but drivers one is looking a bit tired ish

Car is sweet though, pick it up next weekend hopefully for the pricely sum of £2600

Make sure it's had the oil pick up pipe done as these block up, Cambelt, haldex serviced, window regs are a common thing too. PCV hose leaks too.

Crikey, these early S3's are fairly dropping in price. Take it it will be a 210??

Spotted this on local Gumtree yesterday when i was browsing......

Yeah its a 210 mate but its been remapped and they both map to the same power anyways so all good

Lots of car for the moneys.

Another mate sold his last week on an 02 plate with 105k for £4800. This is bargain in my eyes

How the hell is an S3 a hairdressers car?

Personally I'd change the mirrors for the chrome as it's not an S3 without them, granted they're not to everyone's taste mind.

Great cars, miss mine but had to sell as the prices are dropping massively.

Gliptone on the seats with a good scrub should bring them up, mine where a mess when I first bought it but got them looking great with a bit of effort.

Edit - and does Cavmad actually know what an S3 is

Ive had my s3 for nearly a year now.
Audi are doing a recall on all push down coil packs so you might get 4 new ones free of charge, Give them a ring and they'll be able to tell you.

Only issues ive had with my is a few brittle hoses, slowly replacing them all with silicon ones though.

I'm also looking at getting one these when my Teg goes. I've always like them. So are they ok to live with then? Good to drive?

coilpacks, MAF, cooling fans and PCV hoses are the main problems with 1.8T's

coilpacks are on recall and VW/Audi are replacing with the latest revision.

PCV system is well worth ditching and replacing with an oil catch can to simplify and replace the maze of fickle original hoses.

good car to live with and quick when mapped but not amazing to drive, decent suspension and ARB's do make a difference though.
