-add parents to the policy as named drivers not as the policy holder.
-change where you say its parked at night (weirdly street has always been the cheapest for me).
-estimated mileage (dont have it too high unless you do those miles).
-obviously tpft if needs be.
-pass plus helps a bit

Yeah that's about the going rate for a 1st car now, it's insane it really is. I was lucky to get my 1.6 astra insured for £2200 when I first started driving 3 years ago!

How on earth can first time drivers afford these premiums. It's disgusting.

Thinking of doing this on my renewal, realistically will it make much difference?

Yes. You'd be amazed how much difference!

As said add parents/grand parents. Mine was cheaper to insure parked on drive instead of in the garage. Try fully comp and TPFT. Sometimes FC is cheaper. Limit mileage.

Only other thing you could do is go with one of those black box insurance company's, that track your speed and usually have to be home by 11pm untill 5am or something. Only thing is they k ow everything, even what color socks your wearing not something I'd do but it's cheaper.

Dont use price comparison websites, phone round and bounce quotes off the insurers.

This. Go to separate insurance company websites instead of comparison sites. Cut mine by atleast half!

I usually use a comparison site to get an idea of quotes. Then I'll do quotes directly through the websites of the cheapest companies on the comparison site.

Ive found most of the time quotes are cheaper on comparison sites than the actual insurers website.

If you're a named driver on someone's policy, don't some insurers use this as NCB in a way when you want your own policy?

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the problem was the 1.0 Corsa, a typical new driver car. I reckon thinking outside of the box car wise might reduce premiums a bit due to statistics. Could be wrong.

it does usually, my missis started driving 2 years ago, first car was a 1.2 corsa and she was paying £1700, renewal came and they wanted £1600 to renew. got her a quote on my V8 disco and they only wanted £700 so gave her that instead and sold the corsa.

Ive never had an insurance quote cheaper from going direct, than what i do from comparison sites. Going direct always seems to be more expensive by a long shot.

From what ive found, going direct is only good for drivers with full ncb and over 40 years old.

Just put your parents as main driver, and you as a named driver.

Probably cheaper nowadays to not bother and pay the fine if you get caught.

And they wonder why so many people dont bother.

Young lad at my work does it.

Had a Kawasaki Green Mini, with his gran as the policy holder and him a name driver. Pays peanuts to insure it, has had a few run ins with the law in it, has had a few accidents in it, and has had an accident where it was written off and he got a payout for it.

Now if it was illegal, he would have been fuked over the 1st time he got pulled in it. How many people do you know that has a gran who drives around in a bright green mini with a really loud exhaust.
