failed its MOT badly 
About £300+ in repairs to get it sorted 
Not sure if i should fix it or just hunt for a cheap 1.4 sport 
Any opinions?

do you have 300 pounds? if so get it fixed. can you do any repairs yourself? make it cheaper mate

track rod end (got one already), both ball joints, headlight insecure (but i've got what i need to sort that) handbrake, pads, emissions. and some more i think :/

What part of the emissions did it fail on?
The rest are relatively cheap and easy. But the emissions would be the deciding factor.

most of that you could do yourself and emissions could be caused by something like oil, filter and plugs? (if you're lucky)

did it drive ok with a hand brake that doesn't work, brake pads down to the metal, a loose track rod end and 2 knacked ball joints?

You can sometimes have a bit of a haggle with the garage and get them to come down on price.
They wanted £330 for all the brake lines done on my neighbors meriva and i managed to get them down to £250. In the end i did them myself though

why not? A hell of a lot of MOT places will dodge Emissions. I know 4 where i use to live that would do it, also a well respected tuner will do them too

more fool them, i dont know anyone other then close friends that are mot testers that would be willing to do it tbh

besides im not even sure its easy to dodge these days, doesnt the computer have to register a reading before a cert can even be produced?

What's stopping you putting the probe up another cars exhaust? It doesn't detect what car it's attached to.

nothing but i cant see many mot testers going to that trouble and risk there license for 20 quid.
if they are they probably arent busy enough

most mot guys will do it if theyve seen you before and know youre not undercover or whatever its not hard to stick the probe in another car

Bullshit . Not a chance any tester will risk it . Especially now they drive round doing spot checks and vosa retesting them. Try put some additive in fuel that works sometimes to get below the margin. Engine might just be fucked

If a tester is overlooking emmisions then what else are they overlooking? I'd rather know if there was any faults, even minor ones. Especially those who have kids in the car.
