Heard on the grapevine that its going to be annouced today that they found it

Going to be a great day

For those interested, "ATLAS will today announce a 5-sigma signal and CMS will announce a 4.9-sigma signal of a new particle with a mass of 126.5 GigaelectronVolts (GeV) and 125.2 GeV respectively".

Yes turned out not true, but they made a claim they'd possibly done it, everyone got excited, turned out like that, hence my caution over this.

I think we can be a bit more confident over this one. They say the chances of getting this data set and it not been the higgs particle is 1 in 2,000,000

So if you fancy its wrong steve, might be worth a quid

They've found a new particle regardless and its probably the higgs boson, its a pretty massive discovery.

what does it mean now they have found it? I watched some clip on the telegraph site expecting a bit of information into what it now means but instead i got pretty animations of how it was found.
