Looks like they need to do some connecting then.

Is the whole country suffering with the strange selective signal fault tonight? Me and my other half are in the same room both using iPhone. One works one doesn't. Very odd

A few statements and tweets from O2 saying they don't know what the fault is.

all our work phones went earlier and 02 called to say a major outage. no idea on timescales though

Who was it who worked at O2 and could take this ridiculous age restriction off net usage? No credit card and it doesn't work with debit

Need this guy too, had to change my number so now I'm restricted again. Can't remember who it was who sorted it last time.
