was reading that story the other day with that guy who was given that massive overdraft by accident by his bank and done a runner,

if you were mistakenly given money by the bank, say 4 million and you gambled it away and doubled that money and they caught up with you would you only have to give back the 4 million, would you be allowed to keep the money you had won or made off it?

I'd say you keep it as they can't say whose money was gambled maybe?

What if you lost it

How did the guy do a runner? How did he get the cash out so quickly? Or did he just move it to another account?

If its an overdraft it's just like a loan. If it was actual credit I'd move it to another account and fuck off

As tempting as it would be to have a ball with it, I'd leave it in there and return it.

I'd move it to another account with huge interest then let them charge me 6 quid a day until it was paid back considering on 4 mil you would make around 2k a week interest you would be able to pay the overdraft charge and pay the money back slowly with the rest, then once it's paid off 4 million in the bank would be nice

I'd just keep the £438 for the daily interest.

Is that what 4 mil gives you per day then?
Also pretty sure they would tax you on it too

Aye. 4000000 * (4/100) * (1/365)

It's not taxable, surely. Even if it was, i'd tell them to bugger off, just given them £4m back

I'll buy you a drink if that's what you're after. You only had to ask.

Is that even possible with todays inflation? Pretty sure you'd loose more value than you'd gain on a monthly basis. Hence millionaires currently paying to have their money stored with 0% interest in countries with a strong economy.

I'd like to say I would do this and that with it, the reality is I would shite it and tell the bank. Or probably more realistically do absolutely nothing and wait for them to resolve it themselves as I'm a lazy bastard.

Pretty sure money would be confiscated by authorities. Same as with all money earned through crime.

if you did gamble it and got 8 mil how would the bank know?

as long as they got it back within hours of them realising the mistake i cant see how it would be a problem?

might apply for a £4 million over draft tomorrow
