How do they work at your place?

I've recently started in a new role, and today they had annual pay rise talks.

I'm used to pay rises being you're getting x amount. Thanks.

Here however they have a representative for each department. Who all go in together and here what they offer. Come out. Everyone listens to the offer. And decide if they agree. Then they go back in, get a different offer. And this continues till an agreement is made.

Never seen anything like this before :/

Union sorts it with the company around about June every year, if they deem it shit they poll everyone for strike action, seems to be the general way it works. My boss has said she wants us re-graded though so might get one as a result of that, fingers crossed.

normally done as a % across the board.

Some individuals are slightly different if their apprentices on lower wages, they'll occasionally get a few % higher

Don't know about current company but usually just get handed a piece of paper with bonus and payrise on. It's usually linked to 3 things, individual performance, departmental performance and company performance.

union sorts out a deal with the company, company then pays it. get it usually from the last week of november every year.

quite a simple process, unless the company/union refuse it.

Same for me.

I also have to chair the pay negotiations for my 1000 hourly paid employees and that is a whole lot different in that its done with the regional Union Organiser and up to 7 shop stewards. I present an offer, they say what they want and threaten a strike or work to rule etc etc.

My old job. Left, went back for more money. Got pissed off, got more money after a moan. Was working silly hours, asked for a pay rise and the new boss wouldn't give me a rise. I've left again and started up on my own.

I threatened to leave unless they paid me £4k more

We also have a scheme running from February to December where we have to meet a sales target an we get 1% increase for hitting it in Q1, 1% more in Q2, 1% more for Q3 and another 2% for hitting the overall target and maintaining it in Q4.

If we hit it, we get the 5% increase plus 5% backdated for the Feb-Dec period, in a lump sum.

We get a universal letter saying no pay rises. Unless you are shit at your job and moan, then you get one. Or if you don't do any work, you get one then too.

We don't get told anything until we get our payslips, and then you have to work it out yourself. The directors have their meetings to review everyone's salaries, then you either get a rise or don't.

If I hadn't had a payrise for 5 years I probably would have quit after the 2nd time I didn't get a payrise.

If not, I would be asking why I'm not getting at least inflation.
