Got a bottle of wine the other day for my birthday, Rioja, which is my favourite. Thing is it says on the back to consume within 9 months of purchase and by the look of it its been lying around for a while. Date on it is 2009.

Tastes OK, but not as I'd imagined. It has been a while since I drank red wine.

Will it make me sick?

Wine is shite, drank some worth £3 a bottle and some 2k a bottle and still tasted the same.

If anything cheap wine tastes better love it when dickheads say things like 'Your not old enough to appreciate it' or 'You haven't got the palate' piss off

Some people have the knack for it, others don't. Doesn't make it shite because you don't like it nor can tell the difference between bottles though

What country is it? 2009 was generally a good year with a few new world exceptions but I can't see why they'd put a 9 month use by date on any bottle of wine?!

Tbf if it was off, you'd know as soon as you opened it, let alone tasted it-if it's not like vinegar, you shouldn't have a problem

Its Rioja so it's Spanish. Yeah strange they put a 9 month date on it.

Still drinking it and still alive.

I do enjoy a good bottle of wine, but this one has not lived up to expectations. Faustino VII is a very good affordable Rioja.

Only very, very expensive wine is made with bottled storage in mind.
Most wine is matured the appropriate amount then bottled and is best enjoyed "fresh". The belief that you should store bottled wine is a misconception based on the most expensive wine that can in some cases keep maturing and changing character.

Yes, this. If the wine is bad enough to harm you it'll be undrinkable.

Yeah Balling, read there that apparently only 1% of wine is intended for storage, and is mainly, or only, red wine.

Also apparently red wine can stay OK if unopened for 2-3 years and 1-2 weeks when opened.

Just had a look on the Mark and Spencer website and they are now selling the 2010 version. £48 for a case of 6

Key word being "can". A cheap wine can quite easily go bad within a year of bottled storage.

And I wouldn't drink an opened bottle after more than 2-3 days. Let alone 2 weeks.

Yeah same here, if I'm opening a bottle it's because I intend to finish it today or tomorrow.

Like Whiskey, it makes me laugh when people say "I've got some 15year old Whiskey, and I've had it for 10 years".

Nice one

I went to a wine specialist for my maw and paw's anniversary and that was a 2010 bottle that he highly recommended was stored for a year before consumption. That was only £50

So you're pretentious if you can tell the difference between a 3 quid wine and something that's a bit more expensive? Pipe down Tin Hat

It's pretentious when everyone who drinks wine thinks there an expert! When the only wine they have her drank is from Tescos. And less of the tinhat comments you fucking bellend.
