Hey Guys,

I know a few people on here have owned there and I'm looking for some thoughts on them?

What is the main difference between the 172 and 182 apart from the obvious? (Wheels, exhaust)

Tempted to go look at a 172 tomorrow and trade it in for my Leon.

Cheers

Real world not much difference other than aesthetics and having no spare wheel. 182 will obviously be a bit newer.

Regular faults and things to look out for are pretty well documented, especially on here, quick search should bring quite a few good threads to read through.

I enjoyed mine but I wouldn't say it was a particularly good car all round. Epic fun though and very capable.

My sister had a 172 Cup for about 4 years. I drove it loads, pretty damn quick and handled very well as standard.

Seats too

On the topic of 182s, a 182 is only £100 more per year on my insurance than my 1.4 Corsa C, can someone please convince me it's worth buying one because buying and selling cars is a huge chore for me, having to take out the audio etc

About as much fun as you can have behind a wheel.

Get it you wont look back. 172's look like stock clios for sleeper look (except cup). 182 has Bigger range of colours, Recaro option, 182 cup has more power and weighs same currently under rated and not considered, future classic. Make sure it has cup suspension (dark colour wheels) and spoiler pack (cup)

Trophy is same as stock 182 without some options but has unique paint recaros, turinis, and racing suspension (no diet seals so budget for rebuilds)

I desperately miss mine. Will 100% buy another

This. Immense fun and smiles and brilliant on fuel!!

I was outbid on a damaged 172 cup other day. Will certainly keep looking.

Go for. Full fat 182 if you can.

Cup - cloth seats, no xenons, no digital climate, no auto lights/wipers, no abs, no plastic engine cover but come with bigger rear spoiler and lower front splitter

Full fat is auto lights wipers leather climate control etc. then they can have the cup packs (spoiler splitter wheels and suspension)

Common problems, exhaust rubbers, engine mounts, steering wheels melt and thumb grips come off.

Make sure cambelt is done, or budget for it and get it all done (cambelt, dephaser aux belt and water pump)

Very tuneable, amazing handling with a good set of rubber.

My friend is just about to sell his full fat 182 in gold black or what ever the colour is called. Just had 12 months MOT and new tyres, it's on 89k I believe and needs its cambelt doing but he's pricing it to reflect at £1500 HPI clear to and miltek system on it.

He loves it but just passed his type rating and is now a first officer so upgrading it some what I'd have one if I was in the market for a hot hach, bloody quick little cars and handle very well when set up with good runner and eibachs or even on standard cup suspension

I'm on my second one now... had it about 18 months and the only problems I've had was a faulty brake switch (£15) and the cat to manifold ring split (did on my first one as well!) which was about £40 fitted iirc. They do have their problems but they're easy enough to fix.

In the last 6 months I've added coilovers, carbon fibre splitter, Speedline 2118's, Piper exhaust system, Green air filter, had it remapped, re-trimmed the steering wheel and gear gaiter, added stainless steel dials with white needles and resprayed the interior trim... it's been fun! Pretty much done now (would post a picture but Photobucket pictures don't work on here)

I'm quite tempted to offer him £1k now and strip it and use as budget track car, always fancied ago on track.

Photo bucket should work I always use it by pasting the image URL I believe it is

Agree Mark. To put it into perspective, it's what they call a 10/10ths car. You can use it in a real world scenario etc.

I owned a 182 at the same time as an E46 M3. My dad didn't have a car so we agreed to split use until the M3 sold.

There was a fight for the Clio keys every day.

Bought a 182 last month love it. 35mpg easy if cruising. Quick, comfy and all mod cons if you get full fat one.

I replaced a 330 Clubsport for a 182 end of last year, mines needed a fair few bits done to it but its still 100% better to drive than the 330... Plus mine gets about 43mpg on a cruise and mid 30's on the back roads as appose to 22mpg out the 330 :/
