Right been looking at these of late and they suit my needs pretty much perfectly with trying for a baby etc.
Anyone had one? Anything I need to know about and how easy is it to get a bit power from them?
I'm assuming its the same as the corsa vxr engine?

Same engine i think but a different map, meriva has less power

Because the baby wouldnt be in the car if I decided to "tear about"
I just want it faster im not looking for 400bhp or anything. Suppose I could have worded my original post better.
Anyway back to my point. Anythings to look out for?

Exactly this. It suits my needs perfectly. Like I said I dont want massive bhp just enough for a bit fun now and then.

I've got and 8 year old, a five year old and a Vectra VXR estate. Kids love it as it has TV in the back, the dogs love it as they can watch it too.

True story also.

I bought a vectra vxr just before my son was born. Was perfect for what I needed, cheap to buy, practical for family, fast-ish and the boot is massive.
Tax is a killer on them though.

Ive also looked at these but focused more on the.diesel ones.as the.tax is a biy steep.

I'd go for the Vectra also for the boot space incase the mrs wants a big pram. We had a silver cross one that went in the back of a Passat but no other car I had access to would take it.

My maw is giving me her Vectra CDTi SRi for this exact scenario. A firm instruction is to have IsoFix and we've got that so happy days

I do like the vectras but have a soft spot for the meriva and theres not many around at all never mind modified.

Vectra also, i imagine merivas to be nissan note size, which is neither here nor there. Not really any point over a normal car, may aswell get the faster vectra which looks better...

If running costs are an issue though id get a 1.6 t 5 door astra like mark ws.... Looks, space, same engine as meriva

A mate had a vectra vxr that I've driven and I've took a test drive in the meriva vxr. The size is actually quite impressive tbh, the boot is huge and the seats fold flat also whilst still looking like a smallish car. The meriva wasnt as slow as I was expecting either.

For one child a meriva will be fine.
I bought a clio 197 as a family car and the only time i've had a problem with space was bringing Xmas presents back from my parents.

It may sound daft, but you're best to start deciding other things at the same time. What child seat will you have? Obviously there's a massive selection but its best to pick what is right for you before getting the car

for example, a maxi cosi (one of the safest) won't fit in every car. And will you be using isofix anchors? Or a seatbelt fastened seat? The former is highly recommended for ease of use. You then have to get the base (for the maxi cosi it would be a familyfix), then you've got to make sure that your car has the anchors, and it'll fit
