Right i know this is a controversial one but its not ur usual my insurance is too high shall i tell em its a 1.4 bollocks

So im sending off my paperwork to change my car to its new reg and i have to send the v5 off with it. Im wondering whether i should complete that declaring the engine conversion at the same time. Yes its all declared on the insurance and they never said i should change it on the V5. Im just wondering if there is a downside to changing the engine on the v5 i.e. Whenever i search for insurance on the internet it wont quote etc?

I dont know ive just heard alot of people wanting to transfer it back for whatever reason and cant. And alot of converions arent declared on the v5 and im wondering why?

As ive already said it is all declared on the insurance and always will be so im thinking there will be no downsides.

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated

As said already your tax will go up if yours was a 1.4 to start with. I would do it for the sake of it as if you get pulled over then the police will think its a 1.4. You may have to get an engineers report to prove the engines been converted properly. You may not need to though.

You will need a report from a garage stating they have done the engine conversion to prove it, without it dvla wont change the V5

Had to do the same with mine

i sent mine of but wanted a letter froma garage prooving that that engine was in my car, went to vauxhall paid £25 they came out checked engine code and chassis number signed letter i sent it of 2 week later got my new log book

Ok cheers lads. Ive spoke to spoox and they are doing me a letter saying the conversion was carried out correctly so ill send that off with it. It just means itll delay the reg going on a few days

Ill be declaring mine once its done, hoping it will be easy enough for me just using a piece of headed paper signed by my boss with engine code and chassis number, that sound about right?

I declared mine to insurance... Tried changing v5 and they sent back a 1.2 v5 then 2 days later a letter asking for proof it was done by a garage.. thought fuck it and didn't bother

Surely you're not getting correct quotes anyway because it'll be coming up as a 1.4

even if its changed on the logbook it wont change it when you put the reg into places, that works on the reg data when it was new.

I don't understand what's so difficult. You send the V5 off with the amended CC, engine number and in my case the fuel and they either send it back filled in correctly or ask for some half arsed proof. If you're savvy you can make your own receipt. If you read the letter they say you only need a receipt for the engine not the fitting of it

And everytime I got a quote on the camper it still came up as a 1.6 petrol even though it's a 1.9 diesel now. Had to tell them manually.

This all over tbh. If you can be bothered to fit it and want to drive it then why not register it properly? Makes no sense not to really.

Do it. Not worth the hassle if you get caught! All I did was get mine mot'd (bought mine as a shell with no t&t) and at the same time got the bloke to write on a headed bit of paper the new engine code and that it had been fitted correctly,using correct mounts etc. filled out the section on v5,sent it all off and 6 weeks later hey presto,new 1998cc v5

all ive ever done is to get the car mot'd then send the v5 in filled out with new engine's details. before mot's where on line I sent a copy of mot with the v5. never had any issues regarding engineer's report.

I had the camper engine fitted by a specialist and I just sent his receipt off and got a V5 back with all the correct details.
