Had a new addition to the family today, Went looking at leopard geckos on Sunday and ended up deciding on a bearded dragon, got the Viv all setup mid week and picked him up tonight.
Anyone else have any reptiles on here, any advice for a first timer, done loads of research but comments/criticism welcome

used to own 2 bearded dragons, and in the past have owned geckos and various chameleons as well.
Bearded dragons are much more fun when they're newborn, more playful and interesting to watch and they don't smell.
they'll generally eat anything that moves as well as greens.
Sadly, as they get bigger, their shit really stinks, they start taking bigger and smellier dumps. You cant leave it in there or it'll quickly stink the room out and it'll become a choir dealing with it on a regular basis.
A couple of photos from my previous reptiles;
The very light green chameleon is known as a mellers chameleon and are one of the biggest chameleon species in the world.
Have also owned pygmy chameleons as well, (commonly the smallest chameleons on the planet) which were very interesting too. They can also live in small groups IIRC.
My advice would be sell up and get a chameleon, just as easy to look after, more fun to look after and don't smell anywhere as near as much

Amen to that! I got mine off a reptile forum, so missed the fun baby age, just had the do nothing unless i'm starving stinky shit age,
Was still cool though, would like to get a young one at some point

Not got any pictures atm but the missus has got:
3 Bearded Dragons (2 huge ones and 1 smaller one in separate Vivs)
2 Leopard Geckos (one is really calm, the other is hyper and can't hold onto it)
1 Blue tonged Skink (Weird thing, runs around a lot and always urinates on the missus!)

Does the novelty wear off?
Always considered getting a reptile but wonder how long i'd enjoy it for.
Most of the time they seem to look like model lizards as they hardly move, i could just get a fake

Ever have any issues with them feeding?
He's around 4 months old and the shop told us he loved his food and was eating 4th sized locusts so that's what we're feeding him on, first night he ate 5, next morning I put 8 in and he ate 2 through the day and I also left greens for through the day. That evening he ate another locust and I removed the rest but the greens weren't touched. Since then he's only been eating 2 or 3 locusts a day and some greens but everything I read suggests he should be eating more.
Any ideas as to why this is?

they can sometimes slow down a bit for winter so 2 or 3 locusts a day is about right i would say. i dont feed mine every day, she just gets a whole box thrown in lol. mine goes through 3 boxs a week which is about 4 locusts a day when u work it out but she doesnt really eat greens as shes fussy

lol you are entitled to your opinion. They have their own room in the house, I work with exotics so in comparison to some people I know, I hardly own any! Can afford them and they don't go without so IMO just the right number
