Been trying to search for an old thread that someone posted on here within the last few years.

It had locations of the underground shelters across the country, not sure if they were WW1 or WW2 etc.

I think it also mentioned if they had been explored or not?

Just wondered if anyone had a link still?

There's an downloadable overlay for google earth somewhere that lists all known uk military installations.

FFS, the two nearest to me are both listed as demolished Always fancied checking one of these places out.

And yes please Steve, would love to see more images if you've got them.

When you found that one, was it sealed and you opened it up, or was it already wide open to the elements?
I ask as i'd expect it to be filthy and flooded, but it appears to be dry and very well lit & in remarkably good, clean order from the pictures.

Found a place down the road from me in the woods that has a lot of big shelters they used to store the bombs in for WW2. Massive places. Can be seen on google maps. Didn't know it existed till a friend told me about it.

Country park near my parents house has some strange shelters built with small windows in.

They're circular concrete structures. There was a runway there also.

Shame they decided to build a housing estate on it. Bet they found some interesting stuff when digging it up. Used to be an RAF base during WW2. Pretty cool.

Edit: just googled it and it's called a pillbox

it's a shame morons ruin them.

Ah, nice one. I did wonder how the hell it stayed in such good nick.

Did you just happen across the place by accident or were you already aware of the location and looking for it?

Also, was it guarded or fenced off in any way, or was it totally accessible?

Ben G you've only scratched the surface, check out the stop lines that ran through the heart of the country. Miles upon miles of pillboxes, anti tank ditches, dragons teeth. Lots still survive. I'm lucky to be on stop line red and blue, if the Germans had invaded Reading would have been a major defence line.

Seen a few pill heads around here, usually in the middle of a random field looking pretty shabby.

There's one up the road from me, its of identical construction to that one.. A few of us have been down there to have a nose but I think the farmer has sealed it up now..

Theres a big bugger up at Warren Row too, but its very well protected.

There's a few pillboxes near me on the moors by the reservoirs. The reservoirs were used by German bombers to navigate to Manchester. There's some plane wrecks still there as well

Get down Sulham from Nunhide Farm to Pangbourne all the Type 28 pillboxes, anti tank ditches and dragons teeth. Also an interesting type of sluice gate
