Bored of hearing about it. All these people with fix their houses and then complain again in a few years when it floods again. No sympathy.

That's what I thought. If you live on a flood plain then you will probably get flooded

Might as well blame everyone else and take no responsibility, as with everything in life.

My best friend lives in an old mill with a canal above him and a river below; it floods every year without fail so he's designed the house to flood-he's raised the sockets, had a stone floor which extends 500mm up the walls and everything is on shelves and plinths. The things he has on the ground floor which are mounted on the floor like sofas etc. are all on tall legs which elevate them anyway but also make it easier to bang a few blocks under each corner to get them higher. He's also got two emergency paddling looks which he can inflate and throw bits into so they float if he ever needs to on top of which he's made a watertight hatch that drops into slots fitted in each of the doors at risk. My point being, he lives on a flood plain but he's designed his house to resist flooding and when it inevitable does flood, it doesn't take any more than a good clean and steam to get it straight again.

It really pisses me off when you see people complaining that they've only just redecorated or had new carpets etc. after they were last flooded-if it's flooded once, why would you not learn from it and develop your house so it wasn't as bad next time round?!?

Exactly lee has said tbh,

They don't help themselves,

I went on a trip to Galveston, tx a few days ago, and as you go across the flood plain/marsh land, all the houses are built on stilts one story high, why haven't we learnt yet?

Used to live on a flood plain, in a house that was built on 2ft stilts. Never had a problem, that house was built in the late 1800's!

Ice occupys more space than water so surely the water level will go down if everything melts.

In fairness, the news covered it pretty well yesterday, unfortunately it's all done in a business way.

Cost to reward, Population Density, Amount of poor folk. - The flooded areas so far all fail on that compared to the almighty London

Sarcastic comment? As the worst affected areas on the Thames are outside London.
