So had a minor incedent earlier a van drove in to the side of me accept liability ect ect but my question is will this be an instant right off, my insurer said if it's 2/3 or more they'll right it off. It's a 53 plate corsa c SRI.

My next question is do I go through the hire company's insurer aviva (the van was on hire) or through my own?

Whys that? I've spoke to my insurer and reported it but stopped them taking action for repairs and claiming as I was doubting if it was the right move. So why through there's?

But wouldn't that cost more then the cars worth? Car can only be worth £800 surely? Meaning any thing over £550 is a right off no?

I've got a claim going through at the moment because the tit across the road reversed into my car 2 weeks ago. Gave him a quote a couple of days later but he now will not answer his front door even though i seen him get out of his car 2 minutes prior.

I was advised whether or not you are going to claim you have to let your insurance company know. I think this is so the cunts can charge you more come renewal.

I spoke with my insurance who get in touch with his insurance company. That's the bit that will be important from my post.

Who are you insured by? Don't go through non fault company as it will be a total loss. Unless you want it to be that is.

If he was driving a hire van, hit you with a hire van and was insured on the hire van then you claim the hire van insurance. The only way you wouldn't be claiming the hire insurance would be if the rental company had lent him a van and it was covered third party only. Even then you'd probably find regular insurance wouldn't even cover a company's vehicle.

Stay as far away from your own insurer as you can.

That said, if you've made them aware you're probably going to pay for years to come for something that isn't your fault.

Regarding whether its a write-off, I would think its borderline depending what your car is valued at. I would think they probably will although it could go either way. I'd say older stuff is very likely to go to loss for very little but as stated its also not a complicated repair to quote or perform.

Yeah I stupidly rang them and informed them, surely even if I went through there insurance (aviva) I'd have to make mine aware any way or they'd find out.

I haven't instructed them to act yet just made them aware so surely if I claim through aviva I technically haven't made a claim my self on my personal policy?

Will be written off id say. I watch these on copart a lot and I've seen plenty on there with similar/less damage that have been written off. Let them write it off, ask how much to buy it back and brake it for spares.

Well it's a write off happy a days so far, now to see what ridiculously low offer they make. Not expecting much but also don't want to end up with peanuts

Thought it would have been. Previous owner of mine was paid out £2k last July for 54 plate 1.4 SRi with 79k. Reject first offer and they will offer more. Also state as it's not your fault you have hassle of finding a new car etc. if you have time and space buy it back and break it too.

Buy it back and sell it to me as long as it's not on the register. That's a easy repair!

Blimey £2k didn't think they'd value one that much, this is a 53 plate 1.4 SRI with 91k on the clock. There ringing today with an offer, will have to see what they say. How much do they normally charge to buy back? And how do I find out if it's on the register I assume they can tell me that?

Will more than likely go on register since they are writing it off.

They will reduce your offer if you want it back. So say they offer £1500 for car. Or maybe £1200 and you keep car.

Breaking wise you'd see
Wheels £2-300
Mirrors £100
Spoiler £80
Front bumper -£50
Engine £300-£500

They want £320 for the car if I buy it back, I'm trying to work out if it's worth it. Engine is only a 1.4 and is the early twin port so very noisy I wouldn't want to sell that to any one. Alloys will need refurb as all are completely curbed how ever have pretty new uniroyal rain sports on, mirrors are fine as is spoiler. Inside there is nothing worth selling. Apart from and the bumpers there isn't any thing else. Prob only break even or make £100 but don't tbjnk it's worth my hassle TBF
