So..
I attempted to buy a house in November last year, however that didn't go to plan exactly.
Having completed probation at my new "old" job I started looking at houses again.
Generally not much was coming on the market within my budget. 1 great house come up few weeks ago that had tons of potential but some one with a ton of cash bought it.
Last week I posted in Off Day if living close to parents/relatives would be an issue.
Well that was for a reason that a house on next street to where I am now was looking like the best available property for the money in the area.
I booked a viewing for Thursday just gone. Didn't see anything new - house is a mirror image of my parents house + it stinks of cat(s).
Went to see bank mortgage advisor on Friday to get "Intend to lend" letter and put in an offer.
Initially the house was advertised for £100k. Later on it was dropped to "Offers over 95k".
Some negotiating later I got it for 92k which is less than what my parents paid for theirs in 2006!
Anyway,

Have gone in with a "I don't really have to buy this" attitude which I think helped

In which to do things correctly, yes.
Materials as well as tools will cost a small fortune.

Wicked man looks great. I hate prices up there, was looking on Keepmoat at properties being built here, roughly £150k for a 2 bedroom apartment... clicked on Yorkshire and which I didn't!
3 bedroom semi with nice garden, garage and solar panels for £130k
Flipping flip sake. I could have actually moved out years ago if I wasn't in bloody Essex!

You get paid more in Essex than you would in Yorkshire.

Whilst that is true John, something like that in my area would be 180-200k. I don't think the salary would be over double

I work in the NHS. Band 6 is band 6... doesn't matter where you live, the pay is exactly the same.

It's all relative though. More you earn, the more you spend etc etc.
We bought our 2 bed semi for 176k 4 years ago. Now it's worth over 200k. Prices have gone mad here over the last year.

Plan is to rip all rooms out apart from kitchen. It stinks of cat
Re-decorate through out.
New bathroom at some point this summer hopefully.
Do something nice with sitting room(false wall for tv/speakers etc)
Extend garage

Sounds good. I want a garage. You extending it both ways? Width and length? Guess your BM won't fit in there
