Anyone drove one of these before? Of so what are they like handling wise?

Saw one on track a week or two ago seemed pretty fast to be fair.

Same as my mini then

One of my favourite cars to be honest and highly underrated.

Granted the ones I've driven were never pushed handling wise but it certainly felt planted all the time. I loved the aggressiveness and sound of the engine and it does dominate the driving experience. To be honest I think the focus st is a more user friendly version but I'd always be different and go for the MPS. Try and go for a later MK1 in Pearl white

Oh and the MK2's are completely different to the MK1. Hated driving them.

Didn't the mk1 have a bad bottom end problem though?
What was the main difference between the mk1 and two?

My best mate has a Mk1. Looks very nice, goes VERY VERY well, inside is a little 'cheap' feeling but nothing terrible. Did I say it goes well?

His road tax has to go on a credit card though

Haha that's what puts me right off the road tax pow. £485 a year! It's silly money.

I've never actually driven either of them. Driven my mums mazda 3 1.6 but that's it haha

TBH it's £12 more a month than a 1.8 MX5 or your Mini. Just withdraw a tenner every month and put in in sock under your bed = roadtax money

Haha very true.

Got me thinking now. I much prefer the newer shape though to be honest.
Prices range from like 9-10k for a mk2 I think

Crikey. And on such a little car too. I take it that it's just a 4 pot?

Seems incredibly unfair.

If you've ever driven an RS Turbo on a wet day you'll be prepared for the extreme levels of Torque Steer..

2.3 16v turbo with direct injection. Similar to a Duratec engine.

Meant to be very good cars, but parts are pricey.

I looked at them for a while then realised if I was going to go down that route, a focus st made a lot more sense.

Mine's fairly well behaved as it has the Turbo Technics front end, although wheel spin is an issue. I should imagine standard ones are fairly horrid though.

Looked at them a while ago. Decided I really don't like the ST's. Nothing about it wowed me. The drive was average too.
Mps seems like a fun car (havnt siven one yet so don't really know for sure obviously) and they look nice, and hardly anyone's got one compared to the ST

I had a gearbox mount fail in mine, gearbox dropped down pulled the shaft out and spat all the bits out everywhere, new short shaft from dealer was about 250.
Good cars, heavy on fuel, I would let the road tax put you off. I'm thinking of a Mazda 6 mps at the moment.

2.3 4cyl turbo. Chassis has a lot in common with the focus st.
