Anyone got this on their policy?

Brother is a mechanic and has just turned 25, can't find anyone who will put driving other cars on the policy. Even Endsleigh, who said they would when we phoned, didn't have it on the Zurich underwritten policy when we went ahead with it.

Seems to be the motor trade bit specifically causing the problem. Doesn't need to drive them for work, this is just purely personal he's looking for.

Im with Zurich, F/C and can drive other cars with the owners permission etc. States it on my policy.

Dosn't say about driving vans but when i called up to double check, they said i would also be covered on a van too.

Im pretty sure that the police are working with insurance companies and trying to put a stop to it. Guy from work who is in his 40s had it removed from his policy when he renewed.

I think so. I've seen it on a couple of my policies before where it mentioned as long as not in motortrade. The policy last night actually said driving other cars - cancelled.

Depends how much it is. Not ~£1k? Normal insurance is under half that. It's more for the convenience factor than anything else, it's not actually for doing any sort of trading or work.

Depends on so many factors, but you could get it for £6-700 I'm sure.

Only a mug would lend someone their car with third party only cover anyway tbh.

Sarah A;

Say mt polices are for traders, designed to cover a business, allowing any driver is creating a massive risk an is open to abuse, he will not find that cover anywhere

He's not a motor trader, he's a mechanic, just has to put the business type as motor trade to be truthful.

If nowhere will do it though then that's fair enough.

Pretty sure I read recently that any driver extensions are being phased out so no one will have it eventually

All depends on what policy you have and what the insurance company covers, all are different.
If you want something that most companies don't cover find a broker and they will find you a company who will insure you for the cover you need, but the question they'll probably ask is why you need that cover? As you'll probably find your be paying a higher premium.

Cheers everyone, looks to be bend the truth or do without then. Bending truth is fine until you crash so will just do without.

If you have engineer in your job title you can at least legitimately claim it was the closest they had.

Don't forget if you have a bump and it's written off they will only pay trade value. Be better with a multi car policy for only 2

I'm in motor trade and not covered on mine for driving others. Bull shit.
