Dudes, as some will know - Subaru sold on Friday. I had a plan to take a Clio 182 off the hands of a friend, run that over winter whilst I add to the Subaru money and buy myself a new dedicated track car.
Clio would continue on as a daily, until my mileage requirements increase (next summer) and then I'd chop it in for an exec saloon - probably on lease.
As it happened, the Clio broke down on its way to me for a test drive - so we both decided to maybe give it a miss as I don't want a nail, and he doesn't want the guilt of selling me one...
Went round a few dealers yesterday to look at some exec saloons, got an idea of pricing and I don't want to be paying that much whilse my commute is still <10miles. I'll suck that up when I need to, for now I need a cheap and fun car that I can run for 5-6 months without costing me too much, and that won't eat into the track car fund too much!
So, with that in mind I'm still looking at Clio 182/172 type cars - maybe also an EP3 plus anything else in that bracket you can think of. I've been trawling PH and Autotrader, there's a scruffy 182 local but that's about it. As I'm hoping to pay as close to £2k as possible - I don't want to be tramming round the country to find this car, so within 50miles of YO8 would be good. I've specified a hot hatch because I want something fun, that won't completely suck out my love for cars in the next few months - I've been there before when trying to be sensible.
Ones that have recently had new consumables would be a bonus - I want this to cost me as little as possible while I own it... which I know is a bit of a gamble buying a £2k hot hatch
Any Forum pointers? Keeping an eye on Cliosport - but that's about it.

Tbf I found my Corsa 1.8Sri a cracking runabout, it never really gave me any hassle, and once I had fitted some decent suspension it handled alright too.
It's just a run on the mill 1800 engine, so shouldn;t see any issues with it.

I used to have a FR diesel for 6 years and it was epic. Consider the cupra on the list, cheers Chris!

Nope this will only ever be a daily until I need to trade it for a barge.
That said, if a 182 or similar came up, and a mega cheap trackday came up... Who knows
Never thought of looking at mk4 Astras before , good shout. What's wrong with the Beemer?

That Astra looks value given the history, you'd need to keep it nice though.

Elise / VX220.
Got the cash for a really tidy VX already but the aesthetics of the Lotus keep drawing me away, so going to save up another couple of months and see what the markets are like.

There is usually loads of cheap 172/182 for sale on Clio Sport Owners Club on Facebook, you would be able to get something quite decent for 2k

He must already be in the nut house to suggest £2500 for an old Astra coupe
You'll be best off with a 172/182 Kyle.

Ep3's are hard to beat for what they are out the box but I've noticed lately that a lot are being broken due to bottom end failure or timing chain issues after a certain mileage.
