How much of a power loss would one be compared to a de-cat? Car will need its first mot in 2 years or so and I can't be arsed changing a downpipe for a day then changing it back.

That's not so much of a problem, re sale issues may occur though, buyer in a couple of years may prefer not to need to find dubious methods.

Keep the parts and then give a new owner the Cat assembly loose so they can make their own decision as to refit it or not?

It takes 15 minutes to swap a decat back to Cat, I bought my car with a decat and will just swap to the cat for the MOT, sounds like you're making a much bigger issue out of than necessary

Maybe on something with an underfloor cat but I assume Nic is talking about the Golf, which has the cat in the downpipe. There's probably a good hour in it, more if the subframe needs dropping.
