After consulting my etiquette books...

"More tips from Ellwood on how to say "no":

Before you respond to any request, make sure you understand exactly what is being asked of you. The task may be inordinately time-consuming or it may not take much effort at all.

If someone persists in bugging you after you've already said "no," repeat your position in a slightly different way. ("As I already mentioned, I have three other deadlines this week that prevent me from doing this for you right now.") Don't apologize.

Stick to your plan. Having a written set of goals and strategies for your work, both short- and long-term, can help you clarify in your mind how doing any particular task for someone else will--or won't--help you get where you want to go. ("I'd love to help you out, but my department's goal is to get to x by the end of this month, and we've really got to concentrate on that.") ......

....so short answer.... "No!"

Oh, and for future reference, the best way to be considered for moderator status is not to ask Written applications may be submitted by email stating what you feel you can offer but we already have a waiting list of people ready to take up the job as the site grows more....

Oh and people want to become mods for two reasons. One is because they have power and 'status'. This isn't generally the best reason.

Second is because people geniunely wanna help out and get rid of crap. They understand moderating gets abuse thrown at you, is time consuming, and segregates you from the masses
