no it is still 70mph. problem being though that raise the speed limit you raise the speed at which people travel. most prople drive betweeen 75-80mph. raise the limit to 80 and you'll get people driveing at 85-90mph

The motorway is more safer than normal roads to drive on, they should raise the limit to about 90 or something, I usually travel between 80-90 on the motorway.
Once I was really low on petrol driving back to Oxford from Slough so I was just sticking to 50 in the 'slow' lane, and I had lorries and old farts in 1.0 Micra's overtaking me!

I agree with the raise the limits but leave speed cameras on DANGEROUS roads or outside of schools ! only ! not on stupid places like long straights
and I think speed bumps are a good idea in the right places !
80 mph on a motorway would be a good idea!

speed cameras on dual carraige way and motorways should be scrapped, cause more accidents by people taillgating and the person in front slamming the anchors on.

yea vibs has a point.
the higher the raise, the higher the speed people would cruise at.
I usually cruise at 80, and if my car would i would easily cruise @ 90 in a 80limit.
cameras should only be in places of danger + accident spots.

there is not one speed camera in Hertfordshire which is not in an accident blackspot.
before speed cameras are even considered the accident data for a three year period is analysed. The accidents must meet certain critera to warrant speed cameras
ie. 3/5 accidents involving excess speed with 100metres of carriageway
or similar
The government decided these rules ages ago, and im fairly sure its true for everwhere not just the county i work in!
and before anyone says it, i dont put the things up, or decide where they go, i just analyse the data.
Theres some nasty accidents happening out there people, drive safe

yeah what u got to think about though is when the 70mph lmit was introduced cars had a stopping distance of about 10miles, with drum brakes on the front now cars can stop real quick if the driver is up to it

Stopping distances will depend on the road conditions too.

there are atleast 4 or 5 camera's by me that I know for a fact there have been no major (and few minor) accidents over the last three years. They also just so happen to be busy routes where plenty of people can be caught!
And I know 5 places where there has been plenty of major crashes, and deaths, but quieter roads, dont see any cameras there!

speed limit = 70 - most people do 80-85
put speed limit to say 85 - ya aint gunan stick to it still, ya just gunna start doing 95-100
so no point in them putting the limit up really
