normally when you buy from a dealer you've got a bit of security if anything goes wrong, so you should bebale to get something from them. Go to citizens advice they'll tell you what you can do!

shit happens when buying used cars mate, its a gamble that you gotta take!
and as someone already said, it might of been an idea to get one of those 101 point checks done before buying the car.

Burn the dealership down. Follow him home and torture him. Tie him to a tree, drench him in petrol and flick matches around him. Cut his little finger off, write your reg plate on it and post it to him.

this is true...if its a registered garage you have consumer rights...take him to court as besides all the bad press he will receive he wont have a leg to stand on...as you literally just drive it off the court...

im sure if your buying 2nd hand goods then you have the same rights as if it was new
in this case, the car is classed as 2nd hand or used
i remember reading that some1 bought a washing machine and it blew up, was used and from a none trader, they went back to them, said it was faulty and not fit for the purpose that it was purchased for and you can demand money back (in a fixed perior of time) or fix/replace it
id look into this

QUOTE:
Consumer protection act 1987/General product safety regulations 1994
Part I and II of the act in conjunction with the general product safety regulations deal with unsafe goods. Part II tries to prevent or reduce the risk of consumers being injured by dangerous or faulty goods. The general product safety regulations say that traders who supply new or second-hand goods must make sure that those goods are safe. There are also special safety regulations, which say that many things may only be sold if they meet minimum safety standards - usually based on those set by British standards institution (BSI). These regulations also apply to second-hand goods but not to things bought at jumble, bring-and-buy or private sales. You may not be as well protected if you buy second-hand goods as you are when buying new goods from a trader.

ps - if you go for him with a good enough case you WILL scare the shit out of him. read the above statement to him
did he have any "all cars sold as seen" signs? im sure these signs do NOT mean anything in the eye of the consumer protection laws

for private traders 'sold as seen' can save them from a lot of hassle, but for dealers I dont think it works!
I would do what Marv said, write a letter stating the law and that you are going to take him to court, or better yet get a lawyer to write it. It will probs scare the shit out of him enough to pay up!

agreed. if he is a registered trader he has a different set of consumer protection laws as opposed to a private sale

aye, thats the way Ive always see it! I would go to him saying you've spoken to citizens advice, and also a lawyer, and tell him that law, if he still says nothing threaten to take him to court with a good letter from a lawyer!
It wont get to court, as he doesnt really have a leg to stand on!
