Hi,

My ex girlfriend phoned me up tonight asking about her mobile, and I didn't know - I said I'd get back to her (I want to sound clever) with the right answer so can any experts please help!

She's bought a Pay As You Go Samgumg something 800 on Vodaphone from The Link. She has a sim card I gave her in her old phone which she wants to use in her new phone - also Vodaphone.

When she puts the sim in the phone asks her for a password - she says its looks like theres 8 astrisks (*'s). When she switches her old phone off and on her old phone doesnt ask for a password.

Any ideas whats happening?

Thanks for any help.

don't know - she just said its asking for a password, and the one she gave her simcard doesn't work. She asked me for the one the old owner used but she's chaged it since then!

I said phone The Link - but anyone any ideas on how to sort it tonight?

She said there's 8 astericks but don't know if this is a default amount - the password could be less than 8 long.

Any ideas? I said look at the literature that came with it but she said theres nothing. I don't know Samsungs.

Nah - I just want to sound clever - not some plonker who doesn't know. Let her know she's missing out (on someone who knows this answer etc!)

Plus the problems bugging me!

It may be asking for the unlocking code, or the sim card may be an old one so it might not work in the new phone.

Give Voda a call.

I thought it may be the unlocking code but both SIMs are Voda.

Do old SIMs not work on new phones? Could this be cos the orig sim was on a NOKIA?

I thought it may be the old security number but her PIN doesn't work and if it said anything like PUK etc she'd have dais (even though she is a bit dizzy )

Any more ideas?

The style of phone wont affect the sim, i went from a nokia to a samsung A300.

Is the sim a black Voda, or red?

Could be asking for the Phone Code (normally 8 numbers) or the Sim Card Pin Number (normally 4 numbers.) The Phone Code will be in the Samsung manual and she will have to get the Pin Number of Vodafone.

old sims are black, new ones are white and red. There are issues with certain sim cards when swapping on certain phones. Such as my 7650, if you turn the feature on, it requests for a password if the simcard is changed with any other including orange.

Although thinking about that you wouldn't want to do a factory reset when its asking for a security code.

You can also kill them with some codes starting 2767 so don't do anything unless you don't mind needed to book the phone in for an EEPROM flash.

Ian you are scaring the boy

Put the original sim back in and check around the security settings for anything relating to changing the sim + locking the phone.
