Good to see a new slam panel on there

What made you go for the F18? I thought F20s were easily available and cheap. Are they known to be reliable with LETs?

Love the car by the way

well either the new gearbox is fucked or something else is wrong

just about to upload a video...

When I spin the disc with it in neutral it all spins fine, as soon as I put it into gear it makes a horrible clicky noise.

also with it in gear, if i spin the drivers disc one direction it should spin the opposite disc in the other direction. It doesnt do this, just makes the horrible clicky noise as stated above.

this is exactly what the old box was doing

shafts are in correct, no thats me spinning the disc one drivers side with the car in gear.

Shafts are in all the way ols.

I have had a play about with the clutch(pressing the pedal several times, and have also adjusted the cable) it now spins much better and doesnt click. theres a slight wine there now but that should be due to lack of fluid in the box

On the plus side, I have wire brushed the rear drums and all 4 inner arches and have painted the drums back black again(they were flakey black/rust before :lol

I have also undersealed and painted the inner arches which look 100% better. Im off to the powdercoaters tomorrow as he has come recommended through a mate and will do me a few bits cheap. Just need to decide what I want doing

Also changed the colour of the wheels, im not 100% on them but they will do for now. will prob end up anthracite until I go for cav turbos or speedlines...

I did initially do the wheels white, but they looked proper shite, and looked proper chavtastic!

I had another play last night, pressed the clutch pedal and have readjusted the pedal and all seems like it should. Going to fit the new alternator and bottom pulley tonight and then fire her into life

Hopefully it should all be sweet

replaced the box a few days ago and ave only just got round to finishing her then come into more problems

gearbox is still making the whiny/clicking noise so i think its something to do with the clutch/flywheel

they all looked fine before tey were fitted so not 100% sure what the problem is

Ordered some more gearbox oil, new coolant, a new CTS and a clutch.

F18 box will be coming back out and F20 will be going back in along with the new clutch.

Going to fully check the input shaft matches the new clutch before fitting the box back up if this doesnt sort the problem then im clueless as to what the issue is.

Aslong as weather holds out today, I will take the F18 out after work and then get it ready for friday night to be built back up again.

from what i gather mate the number of teeth on the clutch plate dont match the teeth on the gearbox input shaft. hence the noise

will find out for definate tonight though

Got home from work and got straight to it!!

45 Mins later the box was out and the car is looking very sorry for itself once again

The clutch is definately at fault, the splines are completely different. Pissed off I didnt even check this, but glad it will be fixed with a new clutch.

And here it is on the input shaft on the box, No wonder it sounded so rough

Any idea what this pressure plate is? XE or LET? I have a XE Flat flywheel on the engine

It'll be an XE pressure plate if it bolts on as I don't think the LET/late XE one bolts on.

PS. Told you so

Wouldn't bother buying anything special mate, I've heard of others running standard XE clutches fine. Just get a cheap one untill you get sick of blowing boxes to bits and you'll be able to use the current F28 clutch with a proper gearbox
