You sure it's not Mach 1? I know it isn't Mach 1 at sea level as that's 763mph ish but at 100,000ft, it's slower...

True, it'd depend on the altitude (and temperature) that max-speed was taken, so it's possible.
But iirc, 20k ft is something like 700mph and he was free-falling until 6000ft or so, and i suspect that max_speed was a lot lower than 20k.
Have to wait until the press conference i guess....
Certainly wouldn't have been doing Mach 1 at 100k ft though, even with his high RoD.
Edit - Think i'm talking shite, as he would have probably reached that within a few secs of leaving the capsule. They were estimating 720 something mph within 50/60secs of leaving the capsule, which would have put him well over the SoS at that altitude (70k ft+).
