Finally arrived!

I've also ordered some camber bolts for the rear, to give the guys doing the alignment more freedom.

Got it booked in a week tomorrow at Richard Henry for fitting the ARBs/Links (yes I'm paying somebody to do it, weekends are a bit thin on the ground atm due to trying to sell the house!) and then getting the alignment sorted for a "fast road" setup.

Some good work been done on this, looks great as well!

What's it like to run? I've always wanted a Scooby, but I don't know if I could cope with the petrol costs

Yep fuel wise it really doesn't seem to change. 20mpg is a bit optimistic too tbh

Normally get 160miles to £65

Other running costs are really quite tame, servicing at a specialist is same as any other car with the exception of Evo's apparently I paid £90 for a basic fluid/filter change back in november, but I'll be getting a more thorough service done next month which will involve gearbox/diff oil changes, clutch fluid change, etc.

Timing Belt is the expensive service apparently, but my car had it done not long before I bought it - so shouldn't need it for a while.

Tax is on par with most modern hothatchbacks in the ~£250 region, though a post 2006 Scoob will be the next bracket which is over £400 iirc.

Consumables are cheap enough, my brake disks, pads, hoses and fluid all came in at £380

Not too bad I guess, but if you're going to do alot of mileage - it's going to hurt!

Wrighty - really impressed with the ARBs, finished nicely, looking forward to having them on the car.

160miles to a tank?!?! I havent filled one for a while but 45l sounds about right.

Thats not right surely :S

Fee used to get about 240/250 from her black typeR (45l tank), same in the white TypeR when I bought it.

They were both running 300ish bhp.

I worked it out as:

1.35 per litre
65 = 48litres = 10 gallons ish

160miles / 10g = 16mpg.

I've never made a real effort to measure it though, I just know fillups are roughly 65quid and half a tank is normally around a week of commuting, which is 80miles!

I might pay more attention, but I'm really not bothered

Fuel economy aside for a minute...

I woke up this morning uber motivated to crack on and do my brakes. Nipped to Halfords first for another two axle stands, some paper towels, copper grease and some gloves - then back home to get started.

My parking space isn't level, but I worked out if I pull forward about half a cars length... it's good enough. Got the car jacked on all four corners (for the first time and whizzed the wheels off.

I was prepared for stuck bolts this time, I'd read the caliper bolts are a proper nightmare so soaked them all in my magic penetrating fluid and then went inside to check e-mails, weather, etc.

Came back out and attacked the bottom bolt on the front hub, passenger side. With fairly minimal effort the bolt came loose and started loosening off. About halfway through the thread (from what I could tell) it started nipping up again. Gave it another blast of penetrating fluid and 5mins before starting again. Applied consistent pressure on my socket wrench again and then PING... the fucking bolt head snapped off

Surprisingly (for me) there was no fit of rage, I just laughed and got on the phone to Richard Henry before they closed at lunchtime to see if they would have time to sort my brakes too on Thursday.

I did some googling, this seems common as hell - but should be safe to drive on providing I'm not a knob about it.

I'm not too pissed off, just a bit disappointed that I won't be doing the brake change myself - was really a job I'd like to tackle. That said, I could still do the pads and hoses - but I'm inside, warm and clean now so not sure I can be arsed

It wasn't a complete waste of time and effort. If you remember back to the suspension refurb, I wasn't happy with my grease nipples - they were letting grease back out under moderate pressure. I got those replaced today on the rears, so that's one wee job ticked off the list

Once I've moved house, and I've got a garage and stuff - I intend to get comfortable with the extraction of broken bolts. It seems like quite an important skill to have when working on cars.
