You seem like a reasonable guy Hammer, but are you seriously comparing Thatcher's decision to go to war over the Falklands, to The Holocaust?

No but it appears some have taken it that way.

The comparison was on the comment 'questionable methods'. Maggie and Adolf both had them.

It was less than a thousand even if you include Argentinians (majority being Argentinian).

Edit - 255 British soldiers died

Which case you can stick in pretty much every other leader that's been involved in wars.

Yep.

They didn't have iTunes back then but I would suggest a song celebrating his death wouldn't have been top of the charts as it is with Thatcher. They are incomparable.

Neither Churchill or Hitler are given the time frame, but I said more comparable, taking into account their similarities.

The point was people died, the numbers are an irrelevance.

I'll edit it to say just shy of 1000 if it makes people happy.

What intelligence was ignored that resulted in their death? Serious question.

If you want a Prime Minister sending soldiers to die on the back of questionable intelligence I can think of a much more recent example tbh.

trying to agree, but am failing to do so.

some of hitlers ideas were radical but ingenius. the latter stuff he did though was idiotic.

maggie thatchers ideas seem to ring true with me.

'a hard days work for a hard days pay' was something that should be around now.

Agreed but this is a Thatcher thread?

Thatcher and her government consistently ignored Intelligence that Argentina were a threat to the Falklands over a year prior to actually doing something about it. Even removing the Navy presence in the area.

In a round about way its true.

What actual effect did thatcher have on your life? What would you be doing differently if she didn't become prime minister?

You said history having an effect on everyones life is just a load of crap, typed on a device invented by someone that is now dead i.e. an historical figure.

I'd hopefully have more chance of obtaining a mortgage as the financial services industry which she de-regulated would not have become the massive drain on the public that it has done. As a simple example.

Im refereeing to Political history, not technology or science.

Obviously certain type of history have an effect on us, but I am referring to political history, If she didn't drain the public the next prime minister would have

It's a pointless argument because there is no argument. Historic politics (you can forget Thatcher, or Britain, or include them because it's clearly a waste of time me typing this out) irrefutably play apart in what's happening today, and hence your life. If Thatcher had anything to do with what's been taught in schools for the past couple of decades, she obviously didn't do a very good job.

I'm not sticking up for Hammer, as discussed before, he/I are fairly capable of dealing with that on our own.

I'm commenting on the abject stupidity of someone who can continue to claim that because they can't directly see the effect of something at that second, means it isn't there.

I'm largely indifferent to Thatcher.

I don't mind the people who dislike or are hating on Thatcher at the moment.

I feel sorry for them, as it's seems to be the poor people.
