door a lot lighter now happier.... just needs a few washes in clean water, and final sand down then varnished/stained.




Register Plate for stove made..... needs some 'editing' though. Time for me to crack my welder out

Been doing some work on the fireplace now that I'm home

Fitted and sprayed the plate



framed around the inside of the fireplace





Working on the wooden beam for the top of the fireplace...had to trim it down a bit and been trying out distressing the cut off to see how it looks

think its a black and decker scorpion... Its a handy wee bugger for cutting hard to access things. Skirting boards that are still on etc

beam distressed with a chisel and planer.... then sanded. Will give it a coat of varnish soon to seal it, then second coat with a tint to try and match the oak doors. OAK is feckin solid.







Hole taped and filled.... ready to sand and paint.

done 2 coats of varnish on beam now, 2nd with a tint of dark oak through it.... will need more colour though.

Door and facings 1st coated with a tinted varnish (dark oak again)

Will start cutting and fitting the skirtings for the master bedroom later today, and prob start on the ensuite ones too

try some BRIGHTHEAT smokesless coal on it. they look like BBQ coals but burn well and not too expsensive, I bought a 25kg bag for £8.80 to try them.
then when we were happy bought it lose and had it tripped into the cellar via teh coal shoot we had 5 bags (as buying it lose the coal comes in 50kg bags) paid £76 for the 5x 50kg bags

i didn't get it from these butthey give you an idea.

looking back at last years pix, for what reason did you paint the ceiling with oil base eggshell?


have you got some pix together now of how it looked back then and how its looks now, next to each other for us please??

it was stained yellow.... oil based paint is cheaper than using 'stain block'
