Yeah fair enough, each to their own. I'm of course only looking at the issue from the outside in (as I aren't a parent myself). My opinion though is that what i believe to be the rise of broken families is a cause for unnecessary discontent, confusion and friction ...none of which is good for a child.
Other than the mental/psychological issues, there are also the financial strains on single parents...which are being discussed in this thread at present.
Yes, you're probably thinking "well my daughter is fine with her parent's no longer being together"

get rid of help to buy as well then? can't afford a house then stay at home with parents?
[Edited on 10-05-2015 by Russ]
Agreed. I didn't use that so wouldn't affect me whatsoever.
Hardly comparable anyway. If you can't afford to buy a house you can rent one. Completely different to having a child. 100% agree Ben, but moron council scum don't have the intelligence to see it that way

What if there are no better jobs and you come from an area where rents are two, three, or four times what the average mortgage is in other parts of the country?

That would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

Move to the other parts of the country. Simple.

Yeah, piece of cake Ben.
I knew someone would come out with that chestnut.
So leave behind everything and everyone you know to live in some slum accommodation in the middle of bloody nowhere, which also happens to be nowhere near where your job is.
Great solution.

My missus moved 450 miles at 19 years old, so it can't be that hard.

I moved 240 miles down south for work.
My now wife had just graduated and I said I'd relocate to wherever she got a job. I took significant pay cut but joined a company where I could carve out a career. 6 1/2 years later I'm still at the same place, now earning more than I used to. It's also warmer and doesn't rain as much!
We never had to slum it and I've not looked back. It's only a few hours in the car to head back up north to see old friends etc, but you just make new friends as well.

If people have no money to start with, how on earth do you expect them to afford to uproot and move hundreds of miles? Ben, I think you're either not being serious or are just pretty naive.

I don't recall saying what 'my party' was. But yeah you're right, What you've contributed is much more valuable to the thread.

Said person with "no money" needs to stand back and take a look at their life if this is the case. What does the money i have get spent on? What do i need to do to get some more money? would be the first two questions i'd ask myself in this situation.
I know plenty of people who seem to think that life owes them a living. The government of the last 5 years (let's face it, the Lib Dems hardly got a foot in) have hit home that you need to work to succeed and achieve...and the next 5 will hopefully be even more of this.

How many people do you think are actually that poor?
I don't underestimate the issues that we have in this society and those who are the poorest are now more vulnerable than ever. However, it is my opinion that a very high percentage of the population could relocate if they really wanted to.

I kind of get what Nibnob is saying. Lets say for instance your town is full of call centres paying average money. Which is what I did for a bit. I got working for a better company paying 4.5k more. I still couldn't afford to buy a house. Moving up north (or further north in my case) where houses are cheaper would surely mean pay for jobs is also reflected in this?
Not that I care as I'm not in this situation now.
