Not having much luck these last few weeks. On a plus note that wheel should fix no problems. Bit of heat and knock it back into shape.

Seen some sockets in Halfords, pack of four and all half a mm bigger than a standard size. I think 21.5mm would be right for my wheel nut.

The inside of these sockets are reverse threaded so as I bang it counter clockwise with the impact gun, it should bite into the exterior of the locking wheelnut and undo it.

Worth a punt at 17quid I think.

You can get specific locking wheel nut removal tools.
Halford a used too do them.

Aye they're the threaded sockets I'm referring to. Will pick some up on tuesday

Couple of small updates for today:

When I first got the car, I swapped the OEM windscreen washers for some aftermarket citroen ones which did a mist rather than a squirt. They look cheap, nasty and massive though - so finally got round to swapping them for some factory OEM citroen ones:

I have seen wheels done at YES in York (guess thats who you meant). They were a good finish but very expensive. My brother had his done at the place in Garforth, cant remember the name of it but its down Ash Lane and they did an amazing job and welded one up that was cracked which balanced perfectly. Another mate had some done in Cas , again i don't have many details but they were good price. The guy wasnt happy with the finish on one wheel so would re do it or knock £40 off, making it £90 in total.

edit: The 'guy' meant one of the employees or the owner. Can grab you pics if you want them.

Cheers Toby. I'm guessing Garforth is "the wheel specialist" and Cas is "Midas Touch".

I've had a few local recommendations for Midas Touch so will enquire with them tomorrow re: buckled wheel. Apparently Midas Touch do a full set powdercoated for £170.

If they can't help me I'll talk to Garforth, though I've heard their powdercoating is around £300 a set, but they do a drive in/out service.

Oh, sorted the rust with some polish and my GFs toothbrush. Lifted the seal all around and found no more, and the paint is all smooth so I'll monitor for now!

I would assume so.
T.W.S took 4 wheels with tyres, welded one, powder coated, re fit new tyres and balance for £270. 15"

Y.E.S in York did above without weld but hand sprayed center caps for £325 17"

Midas in Cas did powder coat and fit new tyres only for £130 (originally quoted) but did it for £90 in the end due to the slight imperfection . 16".

Just called Midas and the chap sounded confident of being able to straighten the wheel out.

I'm following a couple of eBay auctions atm and depending on how they finish, I might have some new tyres to play with too.

Once I've got tyres, I'll get the car on stands (again) and get the wheels and tyres off to Midas.

Wheel Specialist are fantastic. Did my brothers ST wheels and they look immense, as well as a few of my mates. Would recommend them over anyone local.

Cheers Josh. I'm still awaiting delivery of the locking wheel nuts before I can try to hack of my damaged one. Once I know the wheels will come off the car, I'll get it back on ramps and first take the wheels to Midas Touch in Castleford, if they can't fix the buckle I'll go on to Garforth.

Just spent another £280 on the car. DVLA bastards

Wooo! A positive update.

After changing my mind on tyres a thousand times, I finally settled on buying two Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta tyres to replace the very worn Continental ContiSportContact 3's which I had.

The Vredesteins will go up front, with my nearly-new Uniroyal Rainsports on the back. I'm not a huge fan of the Rainsports, and buying the Vred's is another gamble as they're not one of the "big four" and most people assume they're budgets... but the car enthusiast forums seem to honk about them. If I find them to suck, I'll stick all four tyres on eBay and grab 4x ContiSportContact 3's before they're impossible to find.

The tyres arrived at work today, so they're ready to be put on as soon as the powdercoating is done.

I'd tried several techniques to remove my broken locking wheel nut, a reverse threaded socket just stripped the exterior of the nut and damaged it more, I then found an imperial socket which could be hammered onto it - added some epoxy resin hoping I could "weld" the socket to the nut... came to undo it the next day and the resin just snapped!

Eventually I found a company called Dynomec, they make tools for RAC, the AA, etc for removing nuts without keys - and luckily they're based just 20mins away in Castleford.

I took my car to them this evening after work, and within 10mins he had the wheelnut off. Lovely. Charged me a tenner, and off I went.

The tool he used was like a three bladed chisel, set into a cup which backed onto an impact mechanism. The cup prevented the tool from slipping and damaging the wheel, and he basically pushed it against my nut and then twatted it with a mallet. The impact mechanism caused the blades to turn anti-clockwise as they dug in - voila, nut off.

Midas Touch who are doing my Powdercoating just happened to be around the corner, so on the way home I dropped off the two Vredestein tyres so I would have room in our lasses' Corsa for the four alloys tomorrow.

Got home, jacked car up and whipped the wheels off. I also separated the droplinks from my old Whiteline ARBs. It's quite embarrassing, but I didn't actually know I had whiteline ARBs on the car before they came off and were cleaned. If I'd have known, I probably wouldn't have gone for the CDF ones but my droplinks definitely wanted swapping - so the group-buy price I got makes it acceptable anyway.

My Plan is to get the ARBs powdercoated along with the wheels, stick em' on eBay and probably break even knowing my luck on eBay atm

Took arrival of my new nuts:


They're all locking wheel nuts in effect, require a special socket. I've made a copy of the serial number in case I ever need to replace the key - and also have stuck a sticker on the inside of my boot lid! I never want locking wheel nut trouble again...

I received my Polished Bliss delivery too, nice top-up to my supplies and will come into effect in a couple of weeks when I do my early summer strip down, polish and protect. I've been recommended the Werkstat Acrylic Kit by a couple of individuals on different forums, and also the Pro who detailed my car in November. It's supposed to be an excellent kit for white/silver cars, the left hand bottle is a polish, middle one is a sealant and the final one is a quick-detail spray, which tops up the sealant.



The sealant can be applied as a top up layer weekly if wanted, so rather than wash down a layer of sealant/wax each time I wash the car - I'll be keeping it topped up, which suites my cleaning routine!

Tommorow I'm taking the wheels and ARBs to the powdercoaters, they'll have it all a few days and hopefully mid-week I'll have an update with some nice shiney (and round!) wheels.

Oh my powdercoating quote is:

£170 for the wheels
£20 to repair the buckle
£20 for the ARBs

He's quite a bit cheaper than the local competition because he is a very bare-bones setup, small workshop and no space to store cars (hence mine being at home on stands).

The Wheel Specialist at Garforth wanted £300 just for powdercoating, no idea what the repair would be on top.

you won't be disappointed with the vredestein's. had them on both my focus and now the Z4 and they have great wet and dry grip.

the rears have done 13k miles now and are on the limit, which isn't bad for a RWD 230bhp car. they wore quickly on the front of the focus (6k miles), but that's probably because i was young and it enjoyed wheelspinning away from traffic lights
