Jack Reacher - 6/10 - Weak storyline, could have been a lot lot lot better.

J. Edgar

7.5/10 a little slow and directionless in some parts, but acting was fantastic and so well filmed. Clint is proving himself well!

I've always been a bit hard on my wife for listing this as her favourite film, but also admitted to never actually having seen it.
Tonight I watched it with an open mind as I honestly didn't know what to expect.
It's terrible.
To my knowledge there's never been a more pathetic female lead in any film, ever. She has absolutely no backbone.
How this movie came out in the late 80's and was a hit among women trying to prove their gender as strong and individual as the opposite is beyond me.
The climax of the film sees our hero, Johnny, the poor lost soul who's struggling with his economy because he'd much rather dance all day than take an honest job his dad has lined up for him, swoop in and drag our pathetic heroine, Baby, out of her fathers claws uttering the famous line "Nobody puts Baby in a corner".
Supposedly this is an act of freeing Baby from her fathers leash, but, and this is the real irony, she then ends up quite literally following Johnny's lead, thus proving once and for all that she is indeed weak and completely incapable of making any type of decision, without a man holding her hand.
The cinematography was good.

Good review sir.

Not seen it yet and i'm arguably, hardly ever going to be likely to do so, but it's nice to have one's expectations confirmed so comprehensively.

Nice to watch a car film without the driver changing 70 gears and the floor falling out.

Pretty much the greatest film ever made. The same goes for the car.

Never Let Me Go - 8/10

Wasn't what I was expecting at all! Imagine The Island (Ewan McGregor, Scarlet Johansson) but done really well and original.

One of the best films I have seen in a while.

Side Effects - 9/10 - Trailers made it look fairly reasonable but it ended up being a brilliant watch. Great storyline full of twists, a lot of them aren't obvious, and Jude Law's character is spot on. Well worth a watch.

Agreed. It's a fantastic film!

I like how it's basically a sci-fi, but without all the robots/lasers/stainless steel of conventional sci-fi. It focuses on the personal aspects of this alternate reality in stead of the technical aspects of how it all works.

Sublime acting all around, but I thought Andrew Garfield really shined in this. Then, he almost always does...
