Mate of mines dad is in India just now earns top $ but is away 6 weeks at a time.
definately worth looking in to - something he could probably study part time too

Maybe i should point out that @ my present job i was given a 13wk trial period where they told me after 6wks they werent sure if i was good enough.
After 13wks they laid me off and after my weeks notice they kept extending it for 4wks!
My foreman has twice tried to book me!!!
(3 bookings result in sacking)

Marc - sounds like you need to get out when the reference will still be vaguely credible! No sense leaving on bad terms?!

your housebound for 6 weeks - start looking at whats out there.
If your company's that shite, look at moving to another company doing same job for now at least till you decide what your doing with yourself

Ok, you thought about plumbing, they train ppl up to age of 24, and would probably snap you up since you are already in a semi skilled trade. Im sure you could supliment your pay by doing homers or getting a part time job for a while
Mite mean a few sacrifices but worth it in the end.
Average wage £30k
Own business £40k+

seriously though - don't take the 8.5k - its peanuts, its one thing to take a small drop in pay, but to drop that much and only to end up earning what you earn now seems a bit of a loss.
Look for a new job, but look at starting salarys of more like 11k+

My dad owns an engineering company - that basically has clients come to them asking them to make a product - then they'll design it, make a prototype for it and then machine it / weld it etc - and mass produce a batch for the client.
the thing is, this trade is going downhill - because a lot of the engineering based things are being shipped abroad and so the need for a welder / skilled engineer probably won't be as great in the future.
the plumber idea could be a good one since so many people are now going into computing, media etc. that there's less people left to do things like plumbling and thus you can charge higher prices.
I dunno, definately don't take the 8.5k as its too much of a drop and not enough of a gain in the long run.

You could go and do a course at college at night school or part time during the week?
I'm doing a BND in IT and Computing (which will lead to me going to university if I wish) - and there was a wide range of people in our group.
There was like a 36 year old for a while till he decided it wasn't for him and left, and there was a 28 year old that also left - but there's still a 24 year old and a couple of 21 year olds in our group.
But you might be able to go for a 'mature student' one anyway if you wanted.
A Btec National Diploma is the equivalent of 3 A-Levels ... so if you get a D,D,D (distinction, distinction, distinction) - its the same as getting 3 A's at A-Level.
then you could go on to uni if you wished, or probably be able to get a IT job / trainee IT job that will lead to bigger jobs.

a career in porn is never to be overlooked - not particularly high pay but lets face it you get ot cock fit girls all day - lol - on a serious note, you spek like you are nearly dead at 23 - lol - i am 22 (will be 23 when i fianlly finnish the hell that is uni - and i have got/will have nothing other than a qualification in something that bores me to death and a 10k debt! - lol - what u need to do is get a suite, get some bottle and go blag a job in the city doing anyhitng - i am serious a mate of mine did it and now he is raking it in - just go down there wander about looking at ll the different businesses and when you find one you like the look of go in - ask to see the boss and say you look like the kind of company i would like to work for, anything going? - and then just take anything - its a foot in the door and often the fact that you have been proactive about getting a job with a company will result in them either taking you on or suggesting someone that could do with you - i know that is what i will be doing after uni is finnished

I currently earn around £10.5k minimum doing door work alone. I work at the club 3-4 times a week.
Working at the club is a fun job, have a normal job too and you could earn £25k+ quite easily
