Stoney, seems like they give it a good review.

They say its the same as the Mantzel box so, looks like its Velos for me also

I only need the box, I will have to get it mapped with a Unichip for the rest of the engines mods at a later date when I can drive it somewhere for a few hours on the rollers to get it running at properly and at full power.

There's probably little difference in real performance terms between Velos and mantzel boxes, though you'd need a RR test of the two side by side to see the differences in the torque curves. As for TUV approval, it's more relevant for products sold in Germany as they have to comply with strict emissions regs; personally it wouldn't bother me if I were choosing. Most important thing is to get the mapping right. When I had 153bhp with Mantzel box, I was running a Unichip. One RR session, Mark turned the Unichip off and ran it on standard management. Power dropped to 123bhp and mid range torque took a nosedive - it ran like a bag of shite. Not sure what the maps the chips offered by mantzel and Velos run, but if I would plump for a Unichip everytime, especially as any future engine/manifold mods would make the fixed map in the chips less suitable - a Unichip is mappable as often as you like

also went out in JR's car and drove it and got to say mantzel box's make a lot of diff not sure about velos torque tubes tho?

Essex racer has one and he's got 115bhp ish from his on his 1.4 16v i do belive

there's no way you can know what difference the mantzel box has made as all the engine mods were done together.

I'll be getting the SBD 4-2-1 manifold, unichip with raised rev limiter, the exhaust is straight through already, I just need the cams. I won't be getting it flowed and ported just yet.

How much did the cams set you back if you don't mind me asking?

Mantzel box's work much better on the C16XE units. X16XE units seem to give similar power with box velos and mantzel. Velos is cheap, mantzel is expensive (blame courtenay sport).

After seeing JR's car the other day, i'd still opt for the mantzel box. Especially seeing all the Velos equiped 1.6 16v's running 140bhp ish doing 16's 1/4 still.

Whats the point in opting for the Mantzel when the Velos box can do exactly the same thing with the same gains and for a much smaller amount of money?

if i was to buy one of these for my 1.6, and didn't buy a chip would it lose torque?

M4tt mate you would lose torque but in order to gain this back you need to raise the rev limit as the peak power and torque will be going on after the standard rev limit

hmmm, i don't want to rev the tits of my engine really, thats why i didn't want to get a raised limit.

might just go for the lexmaul on standard limit, i know it doesn't give the same power, but it works better with standard management ( doesn't it?)

the car will act as usualy up till about 4.5 - 5000rpm then it will pull soo hard

you will still notice a huge difference
