Either you're in work or Uni, or ridiculously rich!

I did a speedtest on there from work when I first started, and it showed a downstream of in the region of 35000 Kbps (no, that's not a typo)!

Pity it's running a bit slow at the moment, thanks to over-subscription by BT of any Home1000 package to ISPs......fix-work is due this week, so I should (hopefully) see that closer to the 1000 Kbps downstream (well, with contention, 920-960) I should be getting!

It may not be a Tiscali problem (it probably is, though), but just to make sure, put your phone number into the following page to check your local-exchange status (the light should be green, if it's fine; if it's amber or red, that's where the problem lies - although there's no way contention alone would drop your connection to that speed):

So your upstream is now fine, but your downstream is abysmal......are you using a modem or router?

Try running the test on the following page (it's not 100% accurate, but can give you some pointers to help speed up your connection a bit):

Just reset the router, retested and i got this....

Downstream 117 Kbps (14.6 KB/sec) 126 Kbps (inc. overheads)
Upstream 251 Kbps (31.4 KB/sec) 271 Kbps (inc. overheads

Better, but still incredibly bad! I read somewhere that Tiscali put all the heavy users onj the same server to cut down on their bandwidth costs, and i know my IP address changed just over a week ago, so im thinking this is likely.

Your RWin (Receive Window) of 65535 could be causing a problem, download DrTCP as it says and change it to a multiple of (MTU - 40):

http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html

According to that page, your MTU is 1472, so I'd say use an RWin of 11456. Reboot after setting it, try a speedtest and run the test on that page again, see if it's any different...

Is it good or bad for BT Openworld 512 BB?

Pretty much dead-on what it should be......for a Home500 account, you should be looking at an average of 460Kbps downstream, and between 220-260Kbps upstream.
