good isea but i dont think its gonna work. For a start the area there is too small, so whats gonna happen? People are gonna carry on parking down at the casino and kJ's cafe. southend is not the place for an organised cruise.

i have tried to arrange something along these lines before when i was running Total Streetcar Magazine. So i also know exactly the conditions that ash is having to work under and the restrictions that i no doubt the police are putting on the event. and i dont know quite how they can have environmental Health officers there one week giving out notices about noise pollution to people playing their ICE, and then the next week have a sound off competition. Maybe they have finally realised that they are not gonna shut southend down and that the only way the businesses there make any money in the winter is through the cruisers there of a weeknd.....

its a point though isnt it ollie. Round of applause for the person at southend council that has decided to try and shut the seafront again..... anyone seen the huge gates down by the casino closed recently???? No, because when they put them in and closed the front off what happened? The whole of southend town centre was fucked for hours. People didnt stop coming to southend they just copuldnt get onto the seafront to park up so ended up driving around the local area all night.. Hmmmmmm sounds much safer to me.. Twats

i cant see how they can be selective to the cars that they do and do not allow down there, i mean as a modified car owner, do i not pay the same road tax and probably MORE insurance than some family car owner? i think so, i think that by excluding someone from road based on the car they own, especially when it is a public road, must be some kind of discrimination and thus a violation of human rights.

dont get me wrong, i am all for the cops stopping people acting stupidly down there, as some no doubt do, but i think that to harass the modified car cru is a totally fruitless and wrong tactic.

with their last attempt, the 5 million quid failure, where they added a load of cameras down the a127 and blocked off one lane and pulled people in having got a tax/insurance camera van down there, it became alarmingly obvious that asside from one or two window tinting issues (dont even get me started on that) that the majority of the cars pulled in there were either work vans/families or 'boy races' that were ultimately allowed to carryon as there was nothing wrong with their car - i know cos i sat there and wathed what they were doing for a good hour or so.

they have tried various tactics, gates accross the seafront (which i actually complained to the council about) and general tedious blocking of roads and so fourth - the simple fact of the matter is that, if we have legal cars and are driving within the law that they cant stop us from going to the seafront, rather they cant just piss us off and make us resent the police more.

I am not against the police as i appreciate that they are given the orders from up top, but on the other hand i really get the 'fight the power' feeling when as a modified car enthusiast i am treated as a second class citizen by the government, its totally unacceptable that they feel they can bully a largley law abiding and decent sector of the comunity.

also, last year when they shut down the front a few times, we STILL went, it just causes large traffic problems throught the streets around the front, where surely more residents will be affected by noise etc, and the arcades and stuff were dead, i cant see that the arcades, which must pay alot of tax and stuff to have that location, could be happy with that situation. And i am not viewing this with rose tinted glasses, it really was dead, and them businesses really must have lost money. This also highlights another fact, that they wont stop people doing it, they will either move them elsewhere, somewhere possibly closer to residents/more underground (both have their respective problems), where it tends to go down is easily policeable and really is a noisey area anyway.

phew what a rant!

still as my local big cruise area it does get on my tits when the cops/government are gay about stuff like this.

having said all that i hope that this thing is a success and that its becomes a regular thing - any ideas on the PRICE cos thats all i can see as being a limiting factor

yeah had the kit fitted ollie. Anyone out there thinking of giving money to mark at d&m think very hard. My kit was fitted by a blind one armed monkey and sprayed by his even more disabled inbred aunt. This was closley followed by a motorbike which thought it could go through the back of my car rather than round it which resulted in crunching fibreglass and a big repair bill only for the engine to let go so i have given up for the time being. If someone wants to take my sxi off my hands i am taking silly offers as i am bored. Was starting to think the old guard had vanished into thin air

there are several points to be made about this.

1. How can they ban modified cars from the seafront on other saturdays? They cant, it becomes discrimination, which makes it impossible for them to do. Its like them saying ' You cant come to southend seafront because you are french' It would create legal mayhem for them.

2. This organised cruise will fail. No doubt about it. If it is between the kurzall (sp) and the pier, thats enough room for about 200 cars max. You say its open to the 'mint' cars, how do you define 'mint'. So, basically what your saying is people with show cars are invited, everyone else can fuck off? Not gonna happen, no point doing all that hard work for a few people.

3. They will never be able to stop southend cruise. To do this it would require a massive police presence, something essex police just cannot afford to do. If they shut the seafront, they lose money, businesses will not get the income needed to stay open, they may end up closing, council loses taxes, its a vicious circle.

4. Roadblock on A127, where they divert it down to 1 lane and pull in cars. This is a splendid idea, something which as a car modifier i support. This reduces the number of illegally modified cars, cars with no insurance, no tax from joining us. We all know that its cars with no insurance/tax/illegal modifications that give us all a bad name and stupidly high insurance. Why complain at them cracking down on it? I wont, i saw several cars get pulled on saturday, all of them had visible problems like illegal plates, tints etc. Im much happier knowing some of the idiots are being caught out and not turning up as it makes it a safer place for real enthusiasts to turn up and show off their pride and joy.

there have been too many attempts at something like this before. It will look good at the start and then it will fail just like all the others did and southend will return to its normal saturday night fun
