Good question,
And i defently looked into it, however its not as simple as swapping the engine,
I would need uprated front brakes,
uprated rear discs,
new fuel lines,
new brakes (SRis have ABS)
there is alot different,
not just a 600cc engine,

The car was £8500, + £145 for a years tax.
i knocked them down from 8995 and then we started chatting about part exin my car...
They only offered me £5000 for it, i just laughed,
before i spoke to the chap i took my time to look around their forecout and look at other SXi's
Ones with more miles then mine, same year, and in terrable condtion compared for 6700+
There was no way i was gonna be shafted on my car.
I put in alot of time keeping it clean, and i woulnt let it go for that,
I just said theres my depoist, dont worry about the part ex, ill buy the car now and you can pay for all the swapping of the bits,
(their bodyshop done it all)
So that was it.
£8500, plus they swapped EVERYTHING over

Glasgow,
so everyone one the site who has a modded 1.2 and then to finish the car puts a 2.0 in is gay?
Fair enough it cost me slightly more then 1500 quid, (more like 3000) when you take away the amount i sell my SXi for..
but at the end of the day
i have a full warrenty,
a basically brand new car,
and also a car that is more then fast enough for my needs.
I have spent alot on my SXi getting it what i like, and after 2 years of enjoying that i wasnt just gonna chuck all the money i spent on it away and buy somthing else.
the 1.8 SRi makes sense to me..

in a way i did
The astra was just a loan car they gave me while they done the work on the two cars swapping the bits.
I have to admit, i do have a bit if a soft spot for astras now,
They lovaly cars to drive, and im sure the GSi is awsome,
however no way do i wanna be in a 5 door ever again!

i suppose the only way it would of worked was if you were a very confident mechanic and did all the work otherwise it would of probably been a lot more than 3k, so good job i say

Or if you bought an SRi as a donor car and swapped all the parts over

i think this is a great idea painz. Got yourself a great car if it looks anything like the SXi, and you have the added bonus of a solid engine which can be improved on. Are you gonna fettle the engine now? TB's?

Painz/Peter/whatever - I'm insanely jealous - I really want a 1.8 SRi in black, but am having some major cashflow issues at the moment! I think you have done the right thing.
By the way:

Is this a standard SRi steering wheel or what? Looks pretty nice for standard?
