The fiesta handle fairly well and the power.... well what can you say except.. what power??? 110bhp from a 1.6 16v and this is supposed to have been the cream os fords hot hatches when it was realeased??? the C2 VTS has 125 bhp and you know it has that power cos it repeatedly tells you it's there when you touch the throttle!

The Fiesta Zetec-S was just a fat lazy slob that really didnt belong in the Hot hatch Market... now the ST 150 Fiesta... thats a different kettle of fish!

The Fiesta Zetec-S was never intended to be in the hot hatch market. Its a group 8 warm hatch.

I've got a ZS, love it to bits. Fair enough in standard form the performance is nothing special, but like any car it has the potential to be more.

Had mine for nearly 4 years, i've got 131bhp & 127 lb/ft torque from my n/a 1.6 engine (exhaust, filter, cams, chip 4-2-1 maifold etc etc.).

i flogged my modified 1.4 sport for my zetec-s last october.

plus ponits:
newer
better build quality IMO
more modern engine
roughly same power to about 50mph then i dont think my corsa wouldve kept with it
cheaper insurance (well it is for me anyway)

bad points:
i miss my corsa very much as it was finished in every way i could think of. now i drive a "work in progress" which is very frustrating . but fingers crossed it should be finished by the end of the year, or summer if i pull my finger out

i dont regret moving on from my corsa one bit. the corsa was a dog to drive cos it had been played with and this fiesta is just so much smoother when you put your foot down. its also a lot more comfortable and you can just tell its a newer car which gives you a nice feeling when driving

LMAO at some of the comments in here....

People are saying that it ONLY produces 110bhp from its engine...that is on a par with the 1.6 Corsa Sport if not fractionally more...it was never intended to be a "hot" hatch...look at its insurance group...its only 7 or 8 compared with the group 10 of the Corsa Sport... and to compare it to the C3 VTS would be like comparing the 1.6 Corsa Sport to a Pug 106 GTI...there in different leagues as the insurance groups will show...also these comments of people saying they can "push one along" in there 1.4's are effectively saying there 1.4 is faster than the 1.6 Corsa?!?!?!? So what would be the point in buying the more expensive 1.6 Corsa?

I owned a 1.6 Corsa Sport for 2 years prior to owning a Zetec-S for 1 year...so I feel I am in a good position to give my opinion on both...and I have to say the performance for both is very very similar...I would in fact say the Fiesta after 50-60 mph pulled a lot better...it also felt a lot less breathless when approaching its top speed...the handling as std on both cars is no competition...the Zetec-S actually corners where as the Corsa was very lumpy...the interior of the Corsa is better but the Fiesta's is ok its functional comes with white dials etc so is not too bad...insurance was cheaper in the Zetec-S due to it being a few groups lower than the Corsa even though performance was around the same...as for reliability...people call Ford for everything saying they are not reliable...I had the Fiesta for a year and all it cost me was a set of window wipers...it never broke once...I had the Corsa (Brand New) 2 years and I lost count how many times I needed to take it in due to ICV problems...ECU problems...Coil Pack problems...and this was from a brand new car...the Fiesta was a year old when I bought it...that leaves the looks of the car...again in std form I would take the Fiesta anyday over the Corsa...the multispokes..sideskirts etc as standard offer a great package...just look at the hideous 3 spokes that come as standard on the Corsa ...

As a good looking runabout the Fiesta is a good car...I would definately own one again...and before someone accuses me of being bias...I no longer own either of the above cars so its not as if im trying to legislate owning one...

People need to actually drive and live with a car day in day out before passing judgement on whether it is not as good as another car...I also accept that you will get some bias views from people on this site due to it being a Corsa site...but you ahve to try and see through these things...

the engine is wheezy and gutless, regardless of its power output.

the engine is wheezy and gutless, regardless of its power output.

Ford Fiesta Zetec-S

Engine: 4 in-line cylinders, 16v (1598cc)
Maximum power: 103bhp @ 6000 rpm
Maximum torque: 145Nm @ 4000 rpm
Kerbweight: 976 kg
Electronics: Traction Control, Anti-lock breaks
Suspension: Independent with MacPherson struts, and subframe-mounted 'L' arm. Anti-roll bar with sports suspension

Vauxhall Corsa (B) Sport 1.6 16v

Engine Size: 4 Cylinder 1598 cc 16v
Power Output: 104 bhp
Torque: 148 Nm
Torque: 109 lb/ft
Weight: 1029 kg

About as wheezy as the Corsa then? Also it weighs less...hmm...the stats dont lie...

I know which one I would take...

at those figures. try 106bhp for the corsa, and about a kerb weight of 970kg standard

Figures dont tell you about the way the engine acts though does it. Simple fact is, the engine is poop and gutless.

Oh you must have had one of them "special" sports...which came out the factory with a different engine...even if the stats above are slightly out...I doubt it you would "lose" one that easily...the stats are too similar...

look no offence mate i've driven a Z tec S and my old 14 16v used to be exactly on par with them. Driving wise they feel slow compared to the corsa sport/saxo VTR etc. I'd rather hav a saxo over the Z tec S.

Handling is not too bad though

u cant look at figures and decided which is better SPORT16V, THATS LIKE SAYING 0-60 TIMES MEAN SOMETHING, THEY DONT ITS NOT TRUE MEASURE OF CARS PERFORMANCE

A ZETEC-S COULD NOT GET AWAY FROM MY 1.4 16V SIMPLE AS THAT

AND CORSA WEIGHS 989KG'S

well when it was standard it was running 91 bhp

then it had a set of cams, andheadwork full exhaust and filter not sure on power i am hoping past the 100 bhp mark.

Look this isnt an argument. There is someone myself and JR know who own the Z tec S featured in performance ford last month. It had throttle bodies, exhaust, puma racing psitons etc and that only made 130 bhp after spending best part of 3K at race power motrosport. It was nippy but still not that quick. I think they are rather ok(ish) car but i'd rather have the alternative which are clearly quicker and dont feel slugish.
