im also wanting an astra GSi Turbo at the mo and looking at 9-10k for them!

i also looked at the coupe but after seeing a few GSis and a few coupes i totally love the GSi and the coupe just doesnt do it for me and i know i could probably get a coupe and not have to get a loan but i can easily afford to get the loan so i am gonna get the GSi as i would regret not getting it!

Prices will keep dropping and recently one on the trader was £7990 with 52k on the clock a few miles yeh but not too many and so if you waited till xmas time there may be a few more for around the 7kmark!

the SRi Turbo looks poo compared to the GSi IMO!

i see what your saying but most people on this board cant afford a jap/german performance car. people stick to vauxhall because servicing, parts and labour costs are very reasonable. and for 9k its a lot of car for the money, i know if i had the money i would wait for the vxr to come out then snap a gsi up straight away

No thanks, to much to run and I know nothing about Jap cars, I no nobody that can service them and I would be in a situation the same as when I had my Punto.

Anyway I love Astras, its not just because I love Vauxhalls I actually like Astras.

My dad made a very excellent point yesterday in that if I have a Coupe Turbo its going to be faster than the Nova and I'm not ever going to want to drive the Nova again.

So that got me thinking about getting one of the SE editions Coupes, the ones with the 17's and half leather/alcantara interiors. Can be picked up for 5.5k with average mileage with either 1.8 16v 125bhp or the 2.2 16v engines.

I'm off to look at a couple of Coupe's around Berkshire at the weekend to get a feel of what I'm looking at for the price range I have in mind.

Wrong.

The SRi Turbo had the early Z20LET pushing 187bhp.
The Early GSi's push 197bhp
Newer examples hit the magic 200bhp mark.

The engine is in constant evolution.

The SRi bodykit was made by prodrive and the SRi Turbo only 500 were made and will become very sort after i think.

I say sell the Nova, you've had your fun with it, you'll very rarely drive it if you get an Astra GSi, and get a car you really want with the money.

I had this dilemma before I bought the coupe. I figured out I was growing up and the coupe is a far more grown up car than the gsi. The gsi is for the older 'immature boy racer types' in my opinion.

Slap a Gsi bumper, decent set of wheels and phase 2/3 etc.. on the coupe and I think it makes a far better car than the Gsi.

All IMO of course.

I've settled on a Coupe, cheaper to buy, more variety in colours and interiors and much more grown up like you say Paddy.

Go for the Coupe Oliver...its a decent car as standard....a few years ago I would have let my heart rule my head and said go for the GSI...

But...

Im a lot more maturer now and beleive no car is worth going into debt for...the debt hanging over you will always be there...lifes to short for shit like that...

Get the Coupe...will cost less to insure...will mean you have more money in your pocket each month and inevitably mean your a lot happier...

Will you keep the Nova for the fun factor still?

Yes Andy, if I got a Turbo GSi or Coupe I would'nt need the Nova for the fun factor and it would end up sitting on the driveway never getting used.
